Updating and archiving...

So I was thinking, with SH's new system, I might as well upload a bunch of stuff there, right? They're already hosting tLS and a couple other stories, and I seem to have a few readers.

(For those of you who aren't familiar with Sycophant Hex, they're an archive with standards about punctuation and canon adherence. They will reject stories with a certain number of errors. If you have under that number of errors, but you still have errors, they mark it as a fic With Issues and you need to correct them.)

So I uploaded A Bitter and Deathless Hatred (and yes, I did fix the spelling error for "exhilirated"), and it came up With Issues. Firstly, I had no idea that the disclaimers were to go in the author's notes, which means I will have to go back and fix all of the chapters for tLS. That's not a problem at all, and I feel totally embarrassed that I never noticed that before, or perhaps it's something new.

The other issues involve commas, which is the Bone of Contention among many who have issues with SH. There is a comma which, according to normal standards, needs to be changed to a semi-colon. Unfortunately, it changes the rhythm of the line, which bothers me. It isn't a big deal, and I would change it if necessary (it's not like I'm Emily Dickinson, c'mon).

However, I have now realized that it was complete idiocy to submit A Line in the Dirt/A Free Man to them. It's still waiting in the queue, but by the time they get done with it, it'll be covered with red ink, because it's much closer to poetry than prose, and the commas are going to be stabbing them with glee because they are all placed intuitively, and not by standard punctuation rules, and I feel sorry that I even tried. I feel especially sorry for the person who has to look at it, because she'll probably weep.

I should have just stuck with the fanfic I wrote in the JKR style, and poetry, which seems to escape these quandries. heh.

I just had the maddest idea ever.

I'm reading a smutmas fic, and it just made me think loopy thoughts of the horcrux locket possessing Mundungus Fletcher, and having possessed!Dung trying to war it out with Lord Voldemort. That could be so cool, Lord V having to war against his younger self. Can you imagine? Two clever, smart versions of himself...I mean, yeah, it's cracky, but at the same time it could be really fabulous. To see a young version of Tom, strapped to this out-of-shape criminal, and having to pull himself up by his bootstraps and try to make a bid for dominance...

ETA: Even cooler, Horcrux-locket-Tom would use Dung to his every advantage. He'd probably get Dung to destroy the other Horcruxes, and use his Order of the Phoenix connections to destroy the real Lord Voldemort.

I will never, ever write this, btw.

Blergh.

My eBay listings ended today, and it was not a good week, despite the extra cool things I put up, thinking it would be a good night to end on.

I am waaay behind in crafting things for people. And I'm completely engrossed in my tLS revisions. I've uploaded up to chapter 70 everywhere at this point, so only five more chapters and I'm pretty much finished with the revision project, except for the LJ comm, which needs 15 chapters, and also needs links put into every chapter, and a chapter index. I swear, every archive has something which needs extra attention.

Fanfictionnet eats the "***" I used to use for scene changes. I'm going to switch to horizontal rules permanently from now on, as I just had to go through all of the chapters and manually add the breaks. Other than that, they're the easiest archive to fix. Fic Alley is pretty damned easy, except they have this weird blank page bug which means I have to open a new tab for each chapter. SH and the Archive require HTML-ready prose, and I went back and switched the *** to HRs as well, just to make everything pretty. The LJ comm is pretty simple, except for the linking edits which will take a few hours, I'm certain.

Anyway, still trying to dispel the blahs. I'm feeling a bit pressured...I just wish I had more time, just like everyone else on Earth wishes.

Had a nice Christmas, except for passive-aggressive grandmother, who brought a) no gifts, and b) no cards. She claimed this year that it was because she could never go shopping, and that she never goes anywhere. Of course, she doesn't realize that we know that her friends take her shopping once a week, and that she spends all sorts of money on QVC crap. She always has a new plate or a new whatever.

Look, I don't care about the presents. She gives the crappiest gifts, honestly. (And multiple times.) What really got to me is that all evening she kept saying, "You need to come over. I want to take you all out for dinner." So her new idea for a "gift" is to get us to come over, in her usual manipulative way. From any other person, it wouldn't be a big deal, but from her, it's ugly. And my dad's brother was there, and he even brought her a gift even though he's not related, and she was absolutely relentless about it to him, which embarrassed the hell out of all of us, for a variety of reasons. She kept mentioning it, too, to everyone, and even though I know it's because she can't remember things, it's still annoying.

Anyway, capon turned out well, everything was yummy, and the gift-giving went fairly well. I scaled back this year, and no one else did, so I felt very embarrassed, but in the end, it's all about the love. Even for grandma...
