So I was thinking, with SH's new system, I might as well upload a bunch of stuff there, right? They're already hosting tLS and a couple other stories, and I seem to have a few readers.

(For those of you who aren't familiar with Sycophant Hex, they're an archive with standards about punctuation and canon adherence. They will reject stories with a certain number of errors. If you have under that number of errors, but you still have errors, they mark it as a fic With Issues and you need to correct them.)

So I uploaded A Bitter and Deathless Hatred (and yes, I did fix the spelling error for "exhilirated"), and it came up With Issues. Firstly, I had no idea that the disclaimers were to go in the author's notes, which means I will have to go back and fix all of the chapters for tLS. That's not a problem at all, and I feel totally embarrassed that I never noticed that before, or perhaps it's something new.

The other issues involve commas, which is the Bone of Contention among many who have issues with SH. There is a comma which, according to normal standards, needs to be changed to a semi-colon. Unfortunately, it changes the rhythm of the line, which bothers me. It isn't a big deal, and I would change it if necessary (it's not like I'm Emily Dickinson, c'mon).

However, I have now realized that it was complete idiocy to submit A Line in the Dirt/A Free Man to them. It's still waiting in the queue, but by the time they get done with it, it'll be covered with red ink, because it's much closer to poetry than prose, and the commas are going to be stabbing them with glee because they are all placed intuitively, and not by standard punctuation rules, and I feel sorry that I even tried. I feel especially sorry for the person who has to look at it, because she'll probably weep.

I should have just stuck with the fanfic I wrote in the JKR style, and poetry, which seems to escape these quandries. heh.

Eh, just delete it from the queue if you're second-guessing yourself. No biggie.

True, that might be the wisest course. I just reread it and the commas alone will make for a million errors. ;)

LOL! Yeah, you might want to cut your losses there. ;) Besides, if you're already archived elsewhere, there's not exactly a mad rush to get into SH.

Yeah, exactly. The biggest reason I'm on SH is that it seems to be a big repository for SS/OFC, and there are a lot of readers there who are into SS/OFC. So uploading other stories was more for fun, I suppose, than anything. *grins*

I haven't had a chance to explore the new MAGE system much, but when I clicked on a few of my chapters at random, the standard disclaimer had already been added by the programmers. Is there something else authors need to include besides that?

Oh, really?! I'm off to investigate. If the disclaimer is already there, then I'm just wasting space by adding a second one!

Thanks for the heads up!

Oh my! I hear you on the changing of rhythm, dear.

I'm way behind uploading my own stuff. I tried Fiction Alley, but due to problems with the site, I think they simply lost the story, because the link doesn't work. I wrote them two emails, but got no response. Now I'm not sure if I should simply try to upload it again.

The main problem is that I'd rather write a new fic than spend the time on uploading one that is already done.

I totally understand what you're saying here. I've just spent about two weeks revising and uploading. And most of the two weeks was spent uploading. Each archive has its own difficulties, after all.

Though I must say, I really like the new system at Fic Alley. It's much easier, and it was one of the quicker archives to re-upload the fic to.

I hate all those grammer rules. They are so damn picky and controlling!
