Hi sweetie! You do realize that you have invited me to ramble here.

Ok, here goes -

Around 1998 I got a computer. I started reading Skinner/Scully fan fic. My 2nd fandom was Buffy/Spike. I knew not a single soul in the fandom. I didn't know about Yahoo groups, Live Journal or anything of that sort. I did (and still do) belong to a romance novel discussion bulletin board (been there 6 years now) so I was aware those things were out there...but not for fandoms.

I stumbled upon [livejournal.com profile] nautibitz fan fic page and there was a link to her journal. I started reading and read and read. I thought it was interesting to chronicle her daily life so I started my journal on September 3, 2003 with no more intention than to write about Alex's development and what we did all day...and to keep track of my disease and what treatments I was doing...blah blah.

Around this time, I discovered Harry Potter fan fic. I'd read a few stories and emailed [livejournal.com profile] rickfan37 because I thought her birthing scene in "Snape In Love" was so very well done. We started emailing and I mentioned I had an LJ...and she asked for a code. So I gave her my one and only code and we friended each other (my one and only friend at the time). She quickly friended others she knew from her Yahoo groups and those people friended me as we got to chatting. Then I participated in a small Round Robin with the likes of [livejournal.com profile] scatteredlogic, [livejournal.com profile] rillathegrape, [livejournal.com profile] leogryffin, [livejournal.com profile] shadowycat, [livejournal.com profile] bleodswean, [livejournal.com profile] shiv5468, [livejournal.com profile] gracelynn, [livejournal.com profile] rickfan37 and forgive me, but I can't remember any of the others at the moment.

So my list grew and as I got to know these nice ladies, I got to know their friends.

I haven't had anyone friend me at random in a while, then boom! Last week I had maybe 3 people do it. It comes in spurts, it seems. I always friend back (after checking them out for a bit) but have recently done a wee bit of de-friending on people that haven't posted in their journals for months or never reply to mine. I don't require people to respond to everything I post - that's ridiculous. However, if I read their entries and I just have no connection with them, or whatever...well, I'm too lazy to filter.

I didn't make any sort of defriending announcement...I didn't defriend anyone I think I've actually ever spoken to at length.

Live Journal has become such a haven for me. I'm still with my romance girls but a lot of them have migrated over here to talk about more personal things under flock etc. I lead an entirely seperate life on LJ and I like it here. I'm met some amazing people and don't ever plan on leaving.

How's that for a ramble? ~g~
