New Orleans photos, group one: general photos

Eleven pics under the cut. Wrought iron, cool buildings, etc.

This fence was around a palace:

This palace, to be exact:

This is the view from within Café du Monde:

This is a view of the other side, in the rain:

New Orleans balcony

The weather was quite quixotic. These pics were taken only moments apart, and yet...heavy rain vs. sunshine.

Someone's front porch.

A gate, further down the street.

Some of the houses have vents built into the walls:

I love this one. It's so beautiful.

The round windows are unbelievable.

Gorgeous building. [livejournal.com profile] julian_black was talking about how the city is half gorgeous, half dilapidated, and wow, she was so totally correct.

Next to this building was this:

New Orleans building long view

And past that was a building with windows broken out. In fact, there were many buildings with businesses in them on the street level, and pigeons roosting in the upper levels.

A detail from one of the buildings:

And my favorite shot from the city:

Glad you enjoyed! I have cemetery pics coming, I'm working on them right now.

Gorgeous! What palace is it? It looks like something out of a fairytale. And the carvings on those buildings are so beautiful, love them.

I have no idea which palace it is, isn't that hilarious? I'm so out of touch. I can tell you exactly which cemetery a pic came from, but I'm clueless about the buildings. It was on the way to the Café du Monde, that's all I remember. ha!

Thanks for posting all these! The voodoo place looks fun. Did you go inside?

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2007-06-15 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, we didn't. We were on our way back, and, as I'm not really that into voodoo, we ended up only walking past.

Funny thing is, Marie Laveau is this major voodoo priestess, and to make people think she had powers over life and death, she stopped seeing people when she got older and had her daughter see them instead, so they'd think she wasn't aging. ha!

lol I love the idea of using her daughter to see customers. A good businesswoman!
