The End of His Spying

Character: Severus Snape, Death Eaters, Voldemort
Rating: PG
Warnings: Melodrama
Het, Slash or Gen: Gen
Description: Poem where Severus finally sees the end of his spying.

The air he breathes is heavy,
plummeting, pressing down his lungs

Leaden fingers, cold swallow

Something is happening now, something has changed, he can feel the sparks building.

There is a hushed murmur, avoided looks,
and the claustrophobia grows

He can feel the yarn unraveling, the complex pattern reduced to the most simplistic string.

He can't remember an innocent moment,
one without knowledge

He can taste the final straw.

Tonight the Dark Lord knows. Tonight it all ends, with a single, simple word of betrayal, overheard.

Hexes burn hot in their wands, and he stands alone, his last performance in the cold, wet dark.

Whuf! That is perfect and beautiful. Such a building sense of doom in a short poem, and "last performance in the cold, wet dark" made me shiver.

Oh, thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it. It was one of the first short pieces I ever wrote about Severus.

It's so easy to believe that a single overheard word would indeed be Severus' undoing.

Yes, absolutely! The Dark Lord is smart, and suspicious...and I can see that Severus would have to be so careful to cover his ass, if he really is working for Albus in the end.
