Whining update

Truly sick now. I am so miserable. I think it was because of Typhoid Mary at work, who insisted upon coming to work over and over again, despite being violently ill and coughing on everything within reach and then disseminating her coughed-upon paperwork to the office at large. I admit, I'm oversensitive about this point, because I am contingent, and I'm at the end of the year, where I have a very limited number of days to process a ton of data, and I literally cannot take time off at all. Also, I am very susceptible to respiratory ailments, and they incubate longer in me and last longer than most people.

Saturday was the Big Move Day. Thank goodness Husband's best friend was there in the morning. Because he turned out to be Tetris Man and did this incredible job packing the truck. Since I am sick (and have strained my neck again, etc.), I was no help at all, except in clearing stuff away. Also, sister and her boyfriend came over in the afternoon and helped move the last pieces of furniture into the truck, and then we emptied the truck and went back (without best friend) for one more load. We slept that night for the first night at the new house.

In the apartment, we still have yet to pack: files from filing cabinet, random assorted office stuff, computer desk with computer stuff, bathroom stuff, the entire kitchen (WAH), random utility room stuff, random storage closet stuff.

Today I was expecting an answer from Comcast. I had an extension number written down for the guy I'm supposed to call. Unfortunately, I've lost it. *cries* I got someone else, who was insistent that I wouldn't know until Wednesday, not Monday. I am so miserable that I lost his extension number. I have auctions ending tomorrow and I am just really hating being separated from my computer. I'm sick and in pain and all I want to do is spend a couple hours with the happy stuff, but I have to leave it where the connection is at the moment. I'm not pleased with this.

Our bedroom is pretty much in working order. The office is next, and that's going to be a big job.

What's complicating everything is the fact that everything that goes in the living room has to be stored somewhere else until the flooring guys come on Dec 22nd. The thing is--I've totally run out of boxes, and I want to box the rest of Husband's grandmother's stuff and put it in the basement, and I still need to box the rest of the crap in the apartment. We're basically unpacking stuff and then turning around and repacking the same box. It's inefficient but I have no choice--I didn't expect that we would be boxing nearly all of Husband's grandmother's possessions--it was all originally supposed to go to the Salvation Army. *sigh*

*giant hugs* I know you're not feeling well, too, and I hope you recover swiftly.

Haven't even read this, but I will...lol. Just now posted the new Wolverine trailer on my blog. OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at how Victor Creed moves! I didn't see Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) but when I watch it for the 2nd time, I'll try harder...lol.

OMG, I'm so fucking excited!

ETA: Saw Reynolds...he has darker hair. AND GAMBIT!!! I forgot to mention GAMBIT!

Jesus, I need to calm down.

I'm sorry you feel so crappy. And when you're moving is just such a rotten time for it, too.

Have you tried with the internets at home? I've gotten lucky in both of my recent moves that a kindly neighbor had an unsecured wireless network so I was able to get online at the new place even before I got the cable hooked up.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have a wireless hookup for the home computer--it's old. And Husband has an aircard, but I don't like to hog his computer, and the reception there is very very limited.

We have only a few neighbors, too, and I think Husband said nobody has a connection he can hook to.

waaaaaaaah!! I am so totally not amused by any of this. *sighs*

Hope you soon feel better.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. Totally. Unfortunately, I have to work the next three days, and I have to do something rather brainy, and I'm really dreading it.

*hugs* Thanks.

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sucks when you don't have a connexion. Since my SO got new neighbors I've been lucky and been able to connect to the "linksys" router that now appears on my laptop. :)

I love when I see linksys popup on the list.

Hopes that you get a connexion soon...

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's either the crap satellite connection or the Comcast cable modem. We're not populous enough for me to gamble on there being an open wireless connection and buying the stuff to support it. Plus, the reception is crap in that area so I'm not buying another aircard. And DSL is useless in that area too because we're so far from a hub. And AT&T's Uverse isn't available there either.

*cries*

I just hope that Comcast is able to iron this wrinkle out and get us the service, and I hope it doesn't take too long. I am getting VERY sick of driving back and forth to get my internet fix.

:) Thanks for the comment.

[identity profile] florence-craye.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you can get through the next few days relatively unscathed! Maybe you can go over to her and cough on her again, but the last day so she'll be sick again when you aren't there. But that's mean. heh heh XD

Ack, I hope comcast gets its act together. Don't they realize some people have business that depends on the net!?!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
She's still sick, lol, and not staying home means that she's just not going to get better quickly--and now I'm sentenced to the same fate. The difference is that she has paid time off and I DO NOT. *growls* Any other time in the year and I'd just stay home. But I have this big project I do for this company, and it entails reams of data, and I have to finish it by Dec 31st. *more growls*

I am so freaking out about the Comcast thing. I hope their investigation goes quickly...I'm afraid, though, because even though the grandma told us Comcast wouldn't service them, they actually HAD Comcast cable in 2001! And when it was disconnected, apparently there were Issues. *cries*

[identity profile] cactus-wren.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope you feel better soon! - and get the internet business worked out easily. *hugs & chicken soup*

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still waiting--I called today and heard again how I have to wait until tomorrow, wah. :( And thanks, I hope to feel better soon, too!

:: hiss :: at the Typhoid Mary at your office. I've got a few people like that here, too.

:: BIG HUGS :: to you that you'll feel better soon and get all moved in and comfortable again and that the computer connection issues will get straightened out.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Typhoid Mary is still happily spreading her cough among the office folk. Wah.

I hope to feel better soon! I'm just so sick and bleh. And while at work I cannot think. I'm totally out of it. :(

Oh, that's a beautiful hug, thank you so much! I do feel better now. Especially Nick's hand...and Cody's hand...awwww. They're so sweet.

Being sick sucks. Being sick on Important Days and on Last Days of the Year Days sucks even more.

*more hugs*

I am so sad that I had to get sick now! It's bad enough I got sick when I had 11 days off in a row--but to get sick now, when I am so stressed...wah. *emo emo emo*

Thanks, sweetie. *hugs*

I'm usually not a big fan of this saying, but things will get better. Treat yourself as well as you can (sleep when you can, don't do anything that could be done later). Take your vitamins, even if you usually don't, and try to get fresh oranges or other fruit. Eat garlic bread at dinner, with extra cloves. Drink lots of water. Don't forget to breathe (I read this really neat lifehack for working on reports - everytime you hit save, take a deep breath).

*hugs*

Thank you so much for the kind advice--you are the sweetest! *giant hugs*

I catch every respiratory ailment that my coworkers bring in to share. And I often get sick a second time. Offices where I had coworkers with small children have been the worst because kids are little germ exchanges.
But yay for your new house!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, then you know of what I speak. Really, at this point I get so angry when anyone dares to come in sick. lol! It makes me crazy. But I can't help being oversensitive--I know I'm going to get it. :(

Yes, yay for the new house!!

sends healing wishes- suggest you buy a bottle of alcohol handwash and keep it on your desk - when mary comes by make conspicuous use of it.

I always get my moving boxes from the liquor store- another tip- dollar stores sell these great bags- usually a buck- a heavy plastic- often in quite lurid plaid- but they are great for packing soft things and stuff you need to store.

is there an internet cafe nearby- or a library- I have similar issues- too rural for high speed, so I use these options when I have particular need of hi-speed.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Mary doesn't stop by my desk almost ever, I thought. Until today, when she handed me mail. So that's where I got it--I had no idea that she was the mail person, it's usually on my desk when I get there in the morning. *headdesk*

I don't have a laptop--and I'm not keen on doing my eBay and Etsy business from a public terminal. :( Hopefully this will all work out somehow. *crosses fingers*

Good tips about the bags and boxes!
