grah.

Today was the first day of the garage sale.

Slow.

We sold some stuff, but not anywhere near what I had hoped to.

Sister was going to help me, but was very ill this morning. So I had to run around like a loon and try to get things arranged. And Husband had brought up EVERYTHING from the basement and piled it in the aisles. Let me tell you, I am exhausted. I moved it all out onto the driveway by myself and unpacked another twenty boxes and put up a tent and...etc.

Bad luck #1: I reposted the Craigslist ad yesterday, and then went to repost it this morning. (I am aggravated that, in order to repost, you must delete and then post anew.) Only, I forgot that it has a captcha thing, and I was super crazed so I just hit post and ran away. So. My ad was not visible this morning, as it was deleted, and the new ad was waiting to be verified. Sigh.

Bad luck #2: All eight of our signs were "uprooted," according to Husband. I don't know how and/or who. I *do* know that we had two signs in front of our yard, and one of them was down at about one because the neighbor girl came and told me. Not certain what happened.

All in all? I am wishing I'd just donated it all in one fell swoop.

I hope tomorrow is better.

At least I see [livejournal.com profile] gypsyjolie and my BIL tomorrow morning. One lovely ray of light in the otherwise stress-filled weekend.

I was raised by parents who went garage sale shopping, and they went every weekend, expecially after church. But garage sale shoppers shop on the weekend and EARLY morning. So just plan for tomorrow.

I am so hoping that tomorrow is busy. I mean, I have SO MUCH STUFF. Like, crazy stuff.

The people who were shopping kept saying, wow, you have a lot of stuff.

:(

Remember that a lot of people are working during the week and won't hit the sales until tomorrow.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I totally have my fingers crossed. Seriously. I am really wanting this to be successful--mostly in terms of getting rid of stuff! I almost don't care about the financial aspect. I'm just wanting to get rid of the huge sea of boxes in the basement.

you really need to stake the signs in...no wussy pansy signs..wont cut it with a breeze

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Husband said he pounded them in really hard, but I have a feeling they just couldn't take the stress.

[identity profile] catyah.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Grr! I'm sorry that it didn't go as well as you'd hoped. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping that you've got more customers and sell a bunch of stuff.

And remember, once the sale is over with, you can call in whatever charities will take the stuff away in one fell swoop and you'll never have to think of any of it again!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I am really hoping that there are a lot more weekend garage sale warriors!

And I REALLY hope that a charity will take the rest.

I do have an ace up my sleeve--there was a free couch, and the college kid who's taking it will be picking up Monday. What he doesn't know is that I will POUNCE on him and make him take kitchen implements and lamps and anything else I can force on him!

That's fantastic! You mad genius, you!

Grah--my monitor is nearly toast--I can't tell what that looks like. :(

[identity profile] catyah.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I'm sorry, hon.

The details are kind of hard to make out if you don't know what you're looking at -- it's from an episode of "The Big Bang Theory" in which Sheldon invents a nightlight powered by luminous goldfish. :-)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's even harder to make out if you have giant pink lines criss-crossing your monitor, lol!!

;)

I'll definitely have to take a peek once I've swapped cards.

So sorry it didn't go better. But Saturdays are always *the* day, so get those signs back up and soldier on. Or at least trudge, Chaucer-like, until the knights arrive. :)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah? Saturday? I thought it would be Friday! Okay, I feel a little better.

The signs are back up, and Husband will check them again tomorrow. I really have my fingers crossed.

[identity profile] ook.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
You need to go out early tomorrow and put out at least 15 signs, especially ones on busy roads near your neighborhood. I always taped my signs to electrical or telephone poles (simply going around the entire pole with tape, along the top and bottom of the sign). It's harder to remove signs like that (signs on sticks can simply be pulled out of the ground).

I remember that one woman who came to my sale got angry for some reason and someone later told me that they saw about a mile away, tearing down one of my signs.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Let me try to explain the strange geographical quandry I'm in--I live on a country road which stretches out over several miles and has almost no crossroads at all, due to an enormous state park south of us and railroad tracks/giant freeway north of us. I've covered the only crossroads that might draw people in, honestly. Any further out, and I'd be worried about wasting the time.

And Husband stapled one into a telephone pole. There aren't many spots for them, unfortunately, considering that a couple of the intersections can barely even be called intersections. Anyway, at this point I have no extra signs, so I'm just going to have to make do with the ones I have. :(

I am really worried about the angry woman thing! Hopefully I won't piss anyone off somehow tomorrow.

I like the thought of having things go to people who want them. I don't like the thought of getting it all together for sale.

Hope it goes better next time.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm just hoping that the rest of the weekend is okay. I'm a little worried about rain and stuff. *crosses fingers*

[identity profile] florence-craye.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
There are definitely more people out shopping on Saturday than Friday. There are still lots of people like me who have to work on Fridays and the first time we can make it to sales are Saturdays.

Ours will start in a few hours... I had an stressful dream, woke up, and now can't get back to sleep. So I guess I'll start the day!

I hope your sale goes well today! *hugs*

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG GOOD LUCK!

(The sun is out, but it's very slow here, wah!)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, thanks. :) *hugs back*
