Pond pic, giant faerie ring, and maple tree

Pond pic 10-25-09. I haven't been taking as many pics now that everything's just about changed; the opposite shore is a golden brown and it's not quite as visually exciting. But I do plan on trying to keep up with it over the winter, just not as much as I did in fall.
Pond 10-25-09

Giant faerie ring. Husband was quite dismayed when I leapt into the middle of it.
Faerie ring

One of the gorgeous maple trees on the property. Huge, too.
Maple tree

A fairy ring! Oh wow! :-)))
Lovely colours.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it amazing? It's huge! And I don't remember ever seeing a faerie ring made out of that particular kind of mushroom before.

We had others, too, but I didn't have my camera with me. woe. And then I accidentally raked some of them. woe.

What a beautiful place.

Oh, thank you so much! We love the property. It really is wonderful. And Husband is the third generation to live on it, so that's special, too.

Awesome fairy ring!!!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it huge? Crazy! I was quite impressed.

[identity profile] nehalenia.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, gorgeous photos! And I've never seen a faerie ring before! Heard about them, but they don't seem to happen around here. (Even the faeries can't dance barefoot on the rocks and thorns, I guess.) ;)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
hee! Well, we must have a boatload of faeries, because wow, that was one huge ring--usually I see these rings made from the little white mushrooms, and they're small! :) Glad you like the pics!

[identity profile] jaelle-n-gilla.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so pretty!

What happens if you jump into a fairy ring? In Germany we call them witches' rings. I have a photo of myself in such a ring when I was a teen. I remember vaguely that there is something supposedly related to those rings, but I don't know what...

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe that if you jump into a fairy ring, then the fairies can take you away to their fairy realm, or you fall through to the fairy realm. Fortunately, it didn't happen this time. :)

[identity profile] jaelle-n-gilla.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Pity! You could have gotten three wishes or something.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, no wishes--I would have been trapped forever in the fairy realm!

Aw, thanks so much!! Glad you like them!

I've never seen Grant's books--didn't know he was doing stuff like that. Fascinating!

(I usually try to stay away from Myspace. Too confusing for me, lol.)

Awesome icon! I love it!

Kewl faerie ring! Did Husband think you were tempting fate by jumping in?

And the maple tree is quite beautiful.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, Husband did have a look of trepidation on his face when I jumped in!! Hee.

And the maple tree is lovely--there are a few of them grouped together. To me, that's the real faerie ring. *nodnod*

[identity profile] little-tristan.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what faerie rings are? Mushrooms? I've always wondered. Somehow I imagined them as being--almost anything besides fungi.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I always thought they were, and that's what Husband pointed it out to me as, though maybe we're wrong.

[identity profile] little-tristan.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I was warped at a young age by one of the Little House books. Little Town on the Prairie, maybe, where Laura finds a hollow full of violets and describes it as being like a faerie garden. So I always thought faerie rings must involve delicate little flowers. Although, from what I know of old faerie lore, anything is possible.:)

That is so awesome! Glad you lived to tell the tale. We'd miss you! :D

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
hee! Yes, I'm still here, and apparently I'm not bewitched at all! This is good news! :)

[identity profile] gypsyjolie.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the faerie ring - I jumped into it too when I walked the dog. Amazing!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
eeeeee! Now we'll have to visit the Queen of the Faeries together!!

*giant hugs*

PS: I sent you a package last week, so watch out for it. *hugs*

[identity profile] gypsyjolie.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I got the package - meant to call but Halloween got me all distracted. THANK YOU for sending the dog coat and the most beautiful earrings ever! The smoky topaz-y ones with the elaborate finding on it, OMG. Love love love!! And Sugar says double -thank you for her warm coat back. It's been freezing overnight. :(

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
EEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Those smoky topaz Swarovski crystals are one of my favorite beads ever. They are so gorgeous!!!

And hooray for warm Sugar!!!!

I get a few fairy rings in my garden, but nothing as big and impressive as that one. That must be a goblin ring, or a fairy capital city, or something. :-)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Crazy, isn't it? I mean, this must be Faerie Central. It's huge!

YAY for faerie rings! :D

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, hells yes! They rock. *nodnod*

[identity profile] dementordelta.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! That must have been a huge tree to leave such a large faerie ring! I would have jumped in too! Lovely seeing the seasons on your land!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I love our little piece of property--it really is wonderful. I feel lucky every single day when I raise the shades!

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I love this time of the year. The colour of the trees it great.

But dread what follows.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, on one hand I do like winter--no yard work, yay!--and I love the hermit-like feeling of it, I love snuggling deep into the bed and drinking hot chocolate. But I really hate driving in the snow and having to go out in the cold. :(

[identity profile] privatemaladict.livejournal.com 2009-11-03 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, I love that tree!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-11-03 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's part of a little ring of huge maples that's quite lovely. They're the only original trees on the property; everything else was planted by Husband's grandmother (in random and silly places, but that's another LJ entry entirely, lol).
