Pics

I think it was [livejournal.com profile] eloisasnape who wanted to see a pic of my backyard. And [livejournal.com profile] pandora_nervosa's journal has been so full of pics that my journal is getting a bit sulky. So here...a pic of my "backyard" and my dining room.

Backyard

Well, as much as you can have a backyard when you live in an apartment.
Backyard
Dining room

The table is 100 years old; it's one of my happiest things. The country feel of it is due to hand-me-downs from my mom, who was very into the federal blue country thing for many years. Bookshelf on the left is my fairy tale/Robin Hood/large book bookshelf. My literature bookshelf is in the living room, directly across from it, not pictured here. The small bookshelf is the cookbook bookshelf, which is pretty much unused. I'm not the best cook. Items on the bookshelf to the left: Afghani giant wooden stamp, hand painted ceramic piece by friend, Teacup of Destiny, Tetley's tin, and Baby Bear, who is a boy and wears a dress and poofy bloomers underneath. Love him so. No other stuffed animals need apply. Oh, and the strange wooden things on top of the bookshelves are "boats" and a "horse" I made out of scrap wood and nails when I was about eight or nine in my grandfather's garage.
Dining room

I love seeing pictures of other people's houses! I love your bookshelves! :-)

Aw, thanks! :)

Your back garden looks very rural and spacious.

The dining room looks like my sort of room. Lots of books and furniture with character.

I adore Baby Bear with his dress and poofy bloomers!

The backyard is about twenty feet from the patio, which is about ten feet by six feet...heh. It is a communal backyard, it belongs to everybody. We have a teeny grill. There are other buildings on the other side of that strip of green. Plus there is a major freeway just a little further from it. So it's noisy, but it's a cozy little apartment, and I love it.

Baby Bear is basking in the glow of your compliment...thanks!

Your back yard is great: trees and no neighbours? Perfect.

I love your dining room, but then it reminds me of mine, so that's lucky, eh? Those two pictures between the fab bookshelves look interesting. Ancient ruins? Are they photographs you've taken?

Actually, there are buildings right behind the trees, you can barely see them. And we all have a teeny patio, plus a balcony above. So, lots of neighbors. ;)

The pictures are ones I've purchased; one is of a ruined church in Italy, the other is a missionary in Texas. I only wish I had taken them! ;)

At some point I'll try to remember to take a picture of the other side of the room, where my pics are hanging.

Ah! Maison de Valis!

Now, I'd post mine too...but its a major wreck at the moment due to the impending move...so I will take many a picture in May and post then.

I'm coveting your bookshelves! And your communal backyard is soooo much nicer than my current one...which also works as a parking lot (or dump in one corner...ugh). No wonder I never let the boy go out back to play!

Can't wait to see the Chateau du Aeryn! Hee! :)

I love seeing photos of my LJ friends' and their living quarters or things that are important to them. Gives you a peek inside the person. The bookcase (and is that a matching bookcase/desk?) is beautiful!

The bookcases were my grandparents'...they are nice! And they're quite loaded down. I worked at a bookstore for years...

Wow! Your backyard is cool... So different to what I'm used to...

It's rather unimpressive-looking in person, I assure you. It's just that it's so close to the apartment that I had to stand *in* the apartment to take the picture.

And it's full of mosquitoes!

Here in NYC backyard are hard to come by...so how nice that you have one! Right in the middle of the picture, in front of the trees it looks like a little grey bird or something on the ground. What is this mysterious creature? :)

And on the table is a doctor's bag. We never realized that you were, in reality, an MD! You've kept this secret from us!!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-04-23 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I had to run out and check...it is a rock.

An MD? Boy, would my mom be happy! Hee! It is, in actuality, the bag for the camera.

That looks like quite a reasonable-sized garden for an apartment. I suppose you have to share with other tenants though?? I love your furniture and all the books!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-04-23 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a communal area. I should have taken a long-view shot so that everyone could see what it really looks like...that picture was deceptive! ;)
