valis2: Stone lion face (Gatlinburglion)

wow! I can't believe it.

Some of you may remember that I left some of my crafted pieces on consignment at a gallery neary my parents' house. I wasn't thinking it would do well; in fact, she only picked out a few things, and I was a little bummed, especially because one of the pieces was the Cursed Piece, a very expensive piece that I made about seven years ago and was certain would never, ever sell.

But I've received a couple checks, and today, I just received a wonderful check...the cursed piece sold. In fact, I'm a little worried that they have nothing left...I think they only have two pieces now.

Wow! Just...wow!

Good for you!!!

That is fantastic!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thanks!! I'm so happy about this. But now I have to figure out how to get more pieces to her...

*dances about*

*jumping around in absolute amazement*

[identity profile] kitschicat.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats! :D

See, it wasn't cursed. It just hadn't found its true owner yet. :P ;)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I really am astonished! I even tried to talk her out of it! Well, waddaya know. Someone really wanted it after all!

[identity profile] eloisasnape.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I'm feeling insanely jealous and I want it.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
But it's cuuuuuuuuuursed, dahling.

Heartfelt congratulations to you :-)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, you're so sweet! Thank you!

Great new icon, too!

[identity profile] whitemunin.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! Considering that you seem to have a good sales record with them now, will you go back and present some new stuff? I bet they'll take on more.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope they will, but it's ironic, seeing as I was there just a week ago. I suppose I should have stopped by, but I didn't have much time.

They are four hours from my house, so I have to really work out getting there, but still, I hope I can figure something out so that they'll have a little more stuff for the rest of the summer season.

[identity profile] gillieweed.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! Does that make you a Famous Artist?
Congratulations!!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it means I'm not-so-starving this month...*grins*

Wooo now you're a real artist!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-01 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, is that all I had to do? Sell a cursed piece? Wish I had done that ten years ago when I started out.

[identity profile] chrysantza.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations on the good news and the unloading of the Cursed Piece!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I won't miss it a bit, I think. Oh, well, maybe just a little. ;)

[identity profile] saruwatari.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
EE, YAY. *dances around, throws confetti* Definitely a nice surprise for you.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Totally! I feel like Schmendrick when he finally got rid of his curse. *giggles*

[identity profile] scatteredlogic.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
That's great. Congratulations!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

I'm still totally surprised.

[identity profile] weasleyfan.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! Congratulations!

Just out of curiosity... what made it 'cursed'? ;)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
It was very expensive, and hadn't sold after seven years of being displayed at art fairs and craft shows! Wah!

Also, as soon as someone touched it and asked the price, they would immediately recoil and say the usual "I have expensive taste!" Oh, yeah, ha ha ha. And then everything in my booth would suddenly be too expensive! Ugh.

[identity profile] cactus-wren.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! Do you have a picture of the cursed piece? I want to know what it looked like.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
Actually...no, I don't! Wow! That's kind of weird...and I'll never see it again, either! Now I'm almost sad.

I agree with the sentiment that the piece wasn't cursed - it was simply waiting for the right buyer to come along. But wouldn't it be nice if those 'special' buyers didn't take such a long time showing up? :-)

After enough years in the business one discovers that every piece we create, no matter how much we might personally go 'yuck' or 'what was I thinking?!?' towards it, winds up being the 'perfect' item for some buyer.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
Heh...I made about five pieces last year that were hideous, and at one show I sold three of them within two hours. Weird. I never put them out on display, they were that ugly, I just put them in the half-off tray and hoped for the best. I still have one left. wah!

It does amuse me when several of the same kind of item will sell at one show and then none at the next. Regional differences? Freaky coincidence?

Congratulations! ESPECIALLY for selling the cursed piece.

You have NO idea how difficult it was for me to track that thing down and buy it!! ;)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha! May you have joy in its use.

[identity profile] elddonnemar.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
That's wonderful, though it feels slightly odd to really want to purchase things from you knowing that I won't be able to, or even knowing what these things are...

Congratulations! I'm feeling rather stupid, since I don't recall knowing that you're an artist. Do you have a website? What media do you use?

Still, selling a cursed piece, too. I hope they'll take more of your work now.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 12:40 am (UTC)(link)

They haven't called me. Weird, huh? I'll have to find time to call them soon.
