Phoenix Rising, Entry Thirteen. The Wrapup.

Finally I come to the last entry.

This con was different than Lumos in several ways. First, we were right in the French Quarter, so there were many things to do and see, most within a short walk of the hotel (at Lumos, it required an expensive cab ride). Also, it probably had about half the attendance.

On the tourism side, it was amazing. I had many great meals, saw a couple fantastic cemeteries, and drank daiquiris, and ate chocolate and beignets. I saw some beautiful buildings and took several photos; a few of them turned out very well, I'll put them up when I return from WI.

But on the fandom side? Well. The hotel did not really have a good place to hang out. Their Starbucks closed at 5 pm. I mean, some of the best conversations I had were at 2 am at the Lumos Starbucks, so I was sad that we didn't have a place to go. Also, there was little or no furniture in the hallways of the fifth floor where most of the panels met...people ended up sitting on the floor. Again, at Lumos it was a little easier to have a conversation with people in the seating arrangements.

But I think what really happened is that people took advantage of the wonder that is the French Quarter and went out and partied and ate and went on tours. I think with the books so close to ending, most people just wanted to have a good time. I have a feeling that at Prophecy we'll all be running around saying, "CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED?!" I look forward to that.

Hope to see you all at Prophecy!

I think you hit the nail on the head. There was a lot more space and merging between fandom and real world at PR, whereas at Lumos, we were a lot more isolated. I wonder what the set-up will be like at Prophecy.

I am very much hoping that a lot of fannish dialogue takes place. I think that it will, because of the book having just come out...we'll all be in the mood to talk about it!

I still can't believe that I missed you! I'm bummed about that. I would have asked you 245676258764 questions about tLS. (Then again, maybe it's a relief for you that I missed you...)

Awe! And Trevor would've got to play with Squid. I think he would've really liked that.

And if by tLS, you mean your absolutely wonderfully awesome fic, right? I so would've loved to have talked with you for hours about this. Man alive, you know that's one of my faves. And you're so lucky to have gotten awesome artwork from [livejournal.com profile] sigune for that.

I would have been so squeeful to hear your thoughts on it!

And when [livejournal.com profile] sigune announced that she'd take commissions, I held off for a little while, thinking that she'd be overwhelmed, but fortunately she had some time to do something for me. HOORAY! I love that artwork! I have to frame it still.

Thanks so much for posting this fabulous con review! I read all the parts and giggled over all the photos! Though I missed seeing Squidwig in person--hope I get to see him at Prophecy!

You read all the reviews? That makes me giggle, because you were there to experience it firsthand...I would think my blow-by-blow babblings would be rather boring for you!

:) Squidwig missed you as well. We will have to remedy that at Prophecy, definitely!!

~I have a feeling that at Prophecy we'll all be running around saying, "CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED?!"~

And gloating

I can hardly wait to see you again. Take good care and have a safe trip!

I so VERY much hope that you and I are gloating over Snape's redemption and amazing Order of Merlin award! :)

I miss you, sweetie. I enjoyed our conversation so much at Lumos. I'm very looking forward to even more conversations at Prophecy! *sends lurve*
