Random thoughts and little meme

Nearly have finished shopping.

Saw a sign on a piece of electronic equipment in a store that read: "Required Optional Docking Port". Yes, it's required to be optional. I guess I just have to deal with it.

Must go to bed.

1. A character you really, really love
2. A character you like
3. A character you could give or take
4. A character you don't really care for
5. A character you'd like to spork.

1. Severus...was there any doubt?
2. Lucius, Remus...I am starting to become extremely interested in Peter and his motivations, etc., as well. He seems to be complex in the way that Snape is complex, though we haven't seen enough of it yet.
3. Sirius, the Trio, most of the kids, Fudge, Percy, Voldemort, most of the teachers
4. Dumbledore
5. Molly Weasley and Hagrid

And hello to the Friendly Australian Cab Driver Mike!

2. A character you like - harry and/or Lockhart

3. A character you could give or take - percy, dean, seamus, parvati, lavender..

4. A character you don't really care for - all the weasley's except ron and others..

5. A character you'd like to spork. - *doesnt know what that means but if its anything like kill* tonks.

Oh, I totally forgot about Tonks! It used to be that I would put her under "a character you don't really care for"...and I think that's still true, in canon. But in fanon, I actually kind of like her, sometimes she's a lot of fun.

Oh! Oh! Procrastinatory material...

1. love: Snape, Malfoy père, McGonagall
2. like: Lockhart (SS/GL = OTCrackP!), Lupin, Hooch, Cedric Diggory, Hermione, Arthur Weasley, Pettigrew
3. give or take: Dumbledore, Draco, Harry, Voldemort, Luna
4. don't care for: Sirius Black, most Weasleys, Tonks
5. spork material: Hagrid, Grawp, Weasley twins, Fleur Delacour

Also? "Required optional", WTF? That's like saying person X is like a protestant Pope.

You know, I have to say...I enjoyed Lockhart as a character mostly because of his crazy duality...on one hand he's a complete narcissistic fop...on the other hand...a brainwashing stealer of other people's lives. I could feel his underlying panic. He's interesting.

[identity profile] pen-and-umbra.livejournal.com 2004-12-23 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The duality of Lockhart's personality (foppish surface, ruthless interior) is very interesting indeed; had he been just a harmless airhead, my curiosity would've never been piqued as it has. As soon as my backlog of, gawd, four stories gets written, I have a SS/GL plotbunny I want to (man)handle. *cackles, rubs hands*

Oh, I can't wait to read your SS/GL story...

[identity profile] pen-and-umbra.livejournal.com 2004-12-23 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I've written a tentative outline and it's turning out terribly surreal. Petty snarling and observations on hairspray and flower escapades at St. Mungo's. Lockhart makes everything so strange...

So don't feel like working today...

Am I right in assuming that you like Lily in fanon rather than in the books? If not, I find it really interesting as we don't see much of her (other than that great Snape memory flashback). What draws you to her, if you don't mind me asking?

What draws you to her, if you don't mind me asking?

I've not seen too many fandom stories that do Lily justice, actually. There was a really sweet story about Lily being a Beatles fan, I forget who wrote it, but it was really sweet and sad. Other than that they either make her wangsty or give her a cell phone. (shudder)

I picked her mostly because she died to save Harry. I mean, most mothers would, really, and to me she's sort of the archtypical mother, sacrificing herself so her child could live. And from the glimpse we get of her in OOP, she seems to be a very strong character - I imagine her to be 'popular' but not one of the 'queen bee' types, very unselfconscious of being popular, hence her not being afraid of telling James, the Quiddich star, off, defending Snape even when he's a jerk, but defending herself when he calls her names.

Or maybe it's just the mother thing. My son was born the year the first book came out, so maybe I over identified with the mother figure! :)

I also really like Neville. He's my other favorite.

not to be like, picky, but "like" in what way? Think they are well-written or interesting? fanon? canon?

1. love: Lupin, Neville, all the Weasleys but the parents, Moody
2. like: Tonks, Luna, Draco, McGonagall, Lucius
3. give or take: Hermione, Harry, Sirius, Arthur Weasley, the other teachers, Hagrid, Pettigrew, the Dursleys, Crum
4. don't care for: Dumbledore, Molly Weasley, Fudge
5. spork material: Gawp, Voldemort, Madame Maxime, all the house elves, Lavender, Pavarti

Voldy is way boring for the big bad. Really. Yawn.

In fanon, I adore [livejournal.com profile] hackthis's Theodore Nott and [livejournal.com profile] circe_tigana's Blaise Zambini, neither of which is anything but a passing reference in canon.

Y'know, there wasn't really any explanation...I just went with my gut reaction.

I totally forgot about Grawp, who I hated. Though I have to mention that I do like Madam Maxine for some odd reason. Probably because of her fine taste in jewelry. ;)
