As I stroll through the A-team fanfic archive...

Some observations, in true Valis bullet-point style.
  • Earnest haiku poetry about BA Baracus. I am not making this up.

  • One of the authors on the archive is Jullian Gray, which is making me absolutely crazy, because my substitutive memory thinks it's [livejournal.com profile] julian_black for a split second everytime it sees the name. Julian, plus color, get it? *headdesk*

  • I was surprised at how much Murdock/Face there is. After I thought about it for a moment, though, I realized that it makes sense, given the possible pairings.

  • BA Baracus is rarely given much of a role in any of the Face-centric stories I've looked at. Also, I have yet to find him paired with anyone, except for two stories (by the same author) where he was paired with Murdock because Face was with Hannibal. However, he does remind me of Hagrid in a way--I like him better in fanfiction than in canon. Though I have to say that I'm a helluva lot fonder of BA than Hagrid.

  • Best summary ever: What if the A Team were roosters? What if they were specially trained Roosters? What if they then escaped? What if their escape went slightly wrong?

  • I have seen countless summaries for Christmas fics. I have to say--I have never cared for any Christmas fic I've ever read, but they certainly are omnipresent in fandom, aren't they? There's also a single Hanukah fic.

  • Does every fandom have a "[X character]'s Very Bad, No Good, Horrible Day" fic? It seems like it.

  • SOME SUMMARIES ARE IN ALL CAPS AND THEY SCARE ME

  • Strangest disclaimer: INFORMATION: THIS STORY WAS WRITTEN YEARS AGO, WHEN I WAS STILL SUCKING MY THUMB. Er...good to know.

  • There is a Dragonball Z crossover. *blinks*

  • Summary: Murdock begs Face to dance the Time Warp with him.

  • Some Summaries Capitalize Every Word: Summary: Angsty Moments For Murdock About Relationship With Face Following Events In 'Secrets'. Warning: Slash, Though It's Light And Non-Graphic Outside Of A Few Facial Strokes.

  • This seems to be a full disclosure fandom, btw. Makes me wonder if people got flamed for not warning about a few facial strokes. Lest you think I am exaggerating, I must mention that there are other fic warnings mentioning "male/male facial touching" and swear words. Sometimes they list the actual number of swear words in the fic.

  • There are A*Team second generation fics.

  • This summary (which describes a Highlander/A*Team crossover) could be used to describe 90% of all slashfic: Sincerely graphically described gorgeous males having incredible sex with a small touch of kink.

  • There is a fic inspired by the song "Wind Beneath My Wings."

  • There is very little Frankie love in this archive: Warning: Frankie actually says something intelligent. Sorry to anybody who takes any offense to the warning

  • There is an attempt at A*Team, as written by Hemingway.

  • Knockout drugs don't affect Hannibal? Whuh? Is that really canon?

  • Summary: Don'1 believe in summaries.

And I'm not even to letter J yet. Yes, there might be a part two.

The A-Team was always "fluff" to me. I don't think I paid it very mych attention when it was on and I didn't worry if I missed it.

Guess I won't be buying the boxset will I...

But I do remember that B.A. had the least character development of any of them. He's sort of their Hulk but with less personality...

I loved the show when I first watched it. And I still think it has some things to offer; Murdock is hilarious, even today. Some things get old really quickly, but Murdock is not one of them. His hilarious lines and his terrific delivery make it really amusing.

BA really was neglected as a character. Some of the fanfic has him spouting really insightful dialogue, but in his own trademark way. It's actually making me (grudgingly) kind of like him a lot more. I mean, I did like him, but this is even better.

What if the A Team were roosters?

Yeah! What if they were? Someone should pitch that as a remake.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it could be any worse than anything else on TV at this point. Seriously.

I spit my drink all over my keyboard when I read that. Totally made my day. :D

Then it was all worth it! My work here is finished.

Does every fandom have a "[X character]'s Very Bad, No Good, Horrible Day" fic? It seems like it.

Since I have been idly contemplating writing one of these for Torchwood, let me just facepalm a bit over here, okay? :D

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
ahahaha!! That is hilarious!

(Notice I did not pass any value judgment upon said stories. I merely noted their existence. *grins*)

The count of swear words is hysterical. They could weight the different words (i.e., "damn" is worth one point, "bitch" is worth two) and calculate a profanity index for the fic.
What do they mean by facial stroking? Caresses? There's a warning for that?

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
They do have a profanity index, I swear! Some fics say, "One naughty word," while others say, "One very naughty word."

And yes, they do warn for facial caresses! I would not have believed it had I not read it myself.

[identity profile] lady-branwyn.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hinder" would be a naughty word; "arse" would be a very naughty word. I read "facial strokes" and figured that there must have been a graphically violent scene where someone was pistol-whipped across the face. I am not sure I inhabit the same universe as these people.
Please post more about this archive. :D

Your wish is my command! Once I finish drooling over the h/c through the J's...

"What if the A Team were roosters? What if they were specially trained Roosters? What if they then escaped? What if their escape went slightly wrong?"

Crack. All fandomz has it

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-09-19 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly! Crack and roosters. The perfect pairing.

[identity profile] corvus-coronis.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially roosters *in* cracks

/corvus_gutter_mind>

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
*snorts* Yes, absolutely!

Am working on part two...no roosters, sadly enough.

Real B.A. haiku? Oh my. Of course, I did once post Faramir haiku in my LJ...

You have no idea how much you are making me want to write a B.A. Baracus haiku...

Warrior so bold
Now balder and growing old
Attitude still BAD!

that is pretty poor. Pretend you didn't read it. And it's not meant to be taken seriously. I mean, sheesh; the A-team was a fun TV show, not an angst-fest.

Of course, there is evidently A-team slash on FF.net; so nothing surprises me anymore. I always assumed one of the team would end up with the cute reporter gal...

An A-Team/Highlander crossover could actually be fun, if they left out the slash. I mean, what with Joe having fought in Vietnam; you know, out of all the hundreds of men over there, he had to have encountered the A-Team. I could see some warrior-bonding between Duncan and Hannibal and B.A.; while Face tries to swindle Duncan out of some treasures, or at least some antiques.

It doesn't surprise me that B.A. doesn't turn up with large roles in fanfic - I mean, he wouldn't do slash, and he was something of an original TV character at that time (which is why he was such fun). And most A-Team fanfic writers might be afraid of being accused of being racists if they don't write him perfectly...

Now you've got me wondering about an A-Team/Stargate SG:1 crossover; and B.A. meeting Teal'c (that would be wonderful, and could be both moving and funny).

There are so many fandom crossovers it's really amazing! I was shocked by how many different fandoms I encountered on this search.

He does end up paired with Murdock a few times, lol.

You never know where a crossover will take you--I just read a Riptide/Ghostbusters crossover that was actually really good. Sometimes they combine them so well...

Glad you enjoyed!
