Um. A teensy house update.

I've suddenly gotten a bit of motivation.

I tackled the guest bedroom today. Put all of the bedding in the wash. There were some doilies on the furniture, and there was this tall table with a long cover and doilies, and I discovered that the table was rather rickety and handmade out of pressboard, so all of that stuff is gone. I finally pulled stuff out of the closet and put the vacuum cleaners away. Discovered an aerobed in the closet! Huzzah!

Also rearranged more laundry supplies and discovered yet another container with watery liquid in it instead of soap. This has happened countless times so far. So that's another container I've eliminated, thank goodness.

But the best was when I went through the big cabinet in the kitchen, and the cabinet under the phone.

I can make a fort out of boxes of Ziploc bags. No, seriously, check it out.

Ziploc o' destruction

A fort.

It feels nice to have organized them, at least. I'm getting down to the last few nooks and crannies.

Next? I start putting pictures on the wall. squee!

ETA: I should mention that I have these bags because my grandmother hoarded bags, so when she moved to the Assisted Living place we ended up taking some. And when we moved into this house (which was Husband's grandmother's) she left a ton of stuff. Including 23495623498 rolls of paper towels and boxes upon boxes of Ziploc bags. And laundry detergent. Hence the fort.

That's funny. Hint: keep them in one location from now on. :P

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, they can't fit in one location, lol.

Between my grandmother and his grandmother, we'll be able to effectively package food in plastic for the next ten years, at least.

But at least they're all arranged by kind, so we can restock easily. *laughs*

[identity profile] juniperus.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! The bags are hilarious!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I am a little in awe of how many quarts of stuff I could successfully freeze if I wanted to. *grins*

[identity profile] catsintheattic.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
That's a lot of bags in one household. *blinks*

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's pretty crazy, isn't it? I might give some away.

[identity profile] greenpear.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I luvs the ziploc fort. But how did you end up with so many boxes of bags???

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Crazy, isn't it?! It's because of my grandmother and Husband's grandmother. Between the two of them we now have enough plastic bags for the next decade...

*sporfle* At least that's one thing you don't ever need to worry about buying *g*

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
*snorts* Yes, exactly. And with ten containers of laundry detergent...won't be buying that anytime soon, either.

Have I mentioned the drawer full of expired coupons?

[identity profile] florence-craye.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
We just ran out of ziplocs! If only there were a teleporter nearby both of us... XD

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha!! OMG yes. Think of the possibilities.

[identity profile] drusillas-rain.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
oh, man, yeah, when DH's grandma moved into a home we inherited a bunch of stuff including canned food she had been hoarding.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
There was a ton of canned food involved with both grandmothers--mine had stuff from 1983. And a few cans had exploded, ick!

Husband's grandmother didn't have anything that outdated, thankfully, but most of it was still pretty useless, unfortunately. :(

To think I have two containers of ziplock bags (bought for international travel purposes, as they tend to die on the road), and feel as if I have freezer bags to the next millenium!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I am afraid to think of exactly how many bags I actually possess at this point. Seriously. The exact number would probably send me into shock.

[identity profile] jaelle-n-gilla.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
*lol* Looks ike you'll end up with a negative shopping list like I have.

J tends to buy noodles and pesto without checking if we still have any. So his shopping list goes: buy bread, butter, yogurt, do not buy noodles, pesto, anything vaguely resembling pesto, or any salty bread spread.

So... no zip-locks for a while. :)

What pictures will you put on the walls?

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*lol* Looks ike you'll end up with a negative shopping list like I have.

haha!! Yes, exactly! I really can't foresee needing to purchase ziploc bags for the next ten years.

What pictures will you put on the walls?

I have about eight boxes of framed pics from the apartment--I've really been putting off hanging them. I have a huge set of framed pics of family & friends that were in the hallway--everybody was always pretty fascinated by them, so I think I'll do that again, though I'm not certain if they'll be in the hallway or the entryway.

I also have some pics I've taken at different locations, like Hawai'i and AZ and Italy and stuff, and I think I'll put those in their own corner in the living room.

I also have pics I've bought at art fairs over the years. Those will go all over the house, but I still have to kind of plot out where I want them.

Husband is not so excited about the pics--he and I are opposite in our pic style. I like pics EVERYWHERE on every wall surface, and he likes just a few, so this will involve some compromise. *grins*

[identity profile] jaelle-n-gilla.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds good to me! I have a family and friends gallery as well with lots of pictures in one spot and it draws the same kind of attention. (There are about 10 more by now).

I also love that one room in my in-law's house where they have all the free spots on the walls covered with pictures. Yet in some rooms I like to use scarce decoration so the other items show up more. Like the lamps, or the rocking chair. I can understand both sides.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My F&F gallery is very similar, only the pics are closer together. I think there were about forty or fifty of them on one side of the hallway.

If I had my way there would be not one inch of free space. And I'd have a room covered with cemetery pics. Though I understand that they're not everybody's cup o' tea, so I will be saving those for when we put together the basement and make it into living space, so that no one has to freak about it, lol.

[identity profile] rickfan37.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I never see ziplock bags for sale over here. We tend to wrap our food in clingfilm, or sandwich bags, which do not fasten anywhere near as efficiently.
I am quite envious of your ziplock fort! ;-P

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, really? That's pretty interesting. Here, you can get them in any size or shape. One of the boxes claims that it contains the largest plastic bags you can find with a zippered opening. hee!

Now I wish I really did have a teleportation device--I would definitely send you a few boxes!!

[identity profile] artystone.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
One can never, ever have too many Ziploc bags.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*snorts* Only too true. One never knows when one might have to package and freeze 2395876325 quarts of something.

[identity profile] saruwatari.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy crap, that's a lot of Ziplocs. I have a stash of them (I store yarn in them), but... er... not nearly that many.

At least you'll never have to hunt for one in the middle of the night and come up empty.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I won't need to hunt for them at all--I'm buried in them, lol!! :)

[identity profile] verdenia.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my. GL decorating!!!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
hee! Isn't it lovely?

[identity profile] gypsyjolie.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
You'll never want for paper towels or Ziploc again. Someday, when you are putting the 7456th cupcakes for a kiddo's Scouts bake sale in the last of the bags on paper plates, you will remember this day fondly.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
hahahah!

I've also discovered five packages of those horrid super-cheapy restaurant napkins--you know, they're tissue-thin and narrow and awful--and so now I feel honor-bound to use those, too. I mean, I don't want them to go to waste...
