Um. A teensy house update.
Mar. 5th, 2009 06:21 pmI've suddenly gotten a bit of motivation.
I tackled the guest bedroom today. Put all of the bedding in the wash. There were some doilies on the furniture, and there was this tall table with a long cover and doilies, and I discovered that the table was rather rickety and handmade out of pressboard, so all of that stuff is gone. I finally pulled stuff out of the closet and put the vacuum cleaners away. Discovered an aerobed in the closet! Huzzah!
Also rearranged more laundry supplies and discovered yet another container with watery liquid in it instead of soap. This has happened countless times so far. So that's another container I've eliminated, thank goodness.
But the best was when I went through the big cabinet in the kitchen, and the cabinet under the phone.
I can make a fort out of boxes of Ziploc bags. No, seriously, check it out.

A fort.
It feels nice to have organized them, at least. I'm getting down to the last few nooks and crannies.
Next? I start putting pictures on the wall. squee!
ETA: I should mention that I have these bags because my grandmother hoarded bags, so when she moved to the Assisted Living place we ended up taking some. And when we moved into this house (which was Husband's grandmother's) she left a ton of stuff. Including 23495623498 rolls of paper towels and boxes upon boxes of Ziploc bags. And laundry detergent. Hence the fort.

Date: 2009-03-05 11:31 pm (UTC)Between my grandmother and his grandmother, we'll be able to effectively package food in plastic for the next ten years, at least.
But at least they're all arranged by kind, so we can restock easily. *laughs*

Date: 2009-03-06 10:49 am (UTC)J tends to buy noodles and pesto without checking if we still have any. So his shopping list goes: buy bread, butter, yogurt, do not buy noodles, pesto, anything vaguely resembling pesto, or any salty bread spread.
So... no zip-locks for a while. :)
What pictures will you put on the walls?

Date: 2009-03-06 03:41 pm (UTC)haha!! Yes, exactly! I really can't foresee needing to purchase ziploc bags for the next ten years.
What pictures will you put on the walls?
I have about eight boxes of framed pics from the apartment--I've really been putting off hanging them. I have a huge set of framed pics of family & friends that were in the hallway--everybody was always pretty fascinated by them, so I think I'll do that again, though I'm not certain if they'll be in the hallway or the entryway.
I also have some pics I've taken at different locations, like Hawai'i and AZ and Italy and stuff, and I think I'll put those in their own corner in the living room.
I also have pics I've bought at art fairs over the years. Those will go all over the house, but I still have to kind of plot out where I want them.
Husband is not so excited about the pics--he and I are opposite in our pic style. I like pics EVERYWHERE on every wall surface, and he likes just a few, so this will involve some compromise. *grins*

Date: 2009-03-06 03:52 pm (UTC)I also love that one room in my in-law's house where they have all the free spots on the walls covered with pictures. Yet in some rooms I like to use scarce decoration so the other items show up more. Like the lamps, or the rocking chair. I can understand both sides.

Date: 2009-03-06 03:59 pm (UTC)If I had my way there would be not one inch of free space. And I'd have a room covered with cemetery pics. Though I understand that they're not everybody's cup o' tea, so I will be saving those for when we put together the basement and make it into living space, so that no one has to freak about it, lol.

Date: 2009-03-12 10:50 am (UTC)I've also discovered five packages of those horrid super-cheapy restaurant napkins--you know, they're tissue-thin and narrow and awful--and so now I feel honor-bound to use those, too. I mean, I don't want them to go to waste...
