My Favorite Clichés:

1) Snape returning, broken and weary, from the Death Eaters Have Some Cruciatus With Your After Dinner Drink Meeting. I love it, love it, love it. I've read the good, the bad, and the horrible, and it still satisfies somehow.

2)

I've been completely sidetracked. Jean Claude Van Damme has just deflected a tazer gun discharge with a trash can lid, rebounding it to two cops and knocking them out.

I had a very long day yesterday. I'm still trying to recover.

I got up at 4am, left at 5:30 after a bowl of cereal, and then drove seven and a half hours to Illinois, had a disappointing time, drove another hour and fifteen minutes, had another disappointing time, ate a horrible, horrible grilled chicken sandwich at Wendy's that I regret utterly, then drove seven hours home, unloaded, and got into bed at 1am, then up at 7am to go to my day job.

Nothing like a twenty-one hour long day (most of it behind the wheel) to make you forget how to use words in a coherent manner.

Today I ended up staying awake only through the miracle of having discovered how absolutely awesome P J Harvey is. Uh Huh Her is awesome.

Afterwards I went to see a friend and had dinner at a Thai restaurant. Then back home to load up again for tomorrow. Thank goodness I have a little time to catch up with computer stuff tomorrow night.

Two more items shipped, and two more items sold on eBay! Oh, the happy. They only went for $1, but they are out of my house forever, and that is a good thing.

I am going to bed in another ten minutes.

The default lion icon sometimes makes me grateful because I can immediately spot my comments. Then other times I think, everyone must be thoroughly sick of it. I haven't been switching it much recently.

So, any recs of "Weary Snape returning..." stories?

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well, since an extension wreaked havoc with Firefox and I inadvertantly destroyed my bookmarks, I don't have as many.

And, to be honest, I'd be scared of rec'ing them. Most of them are questionable as best...I read a lot of them just for the h/c value. :)

I'll try to find a few good ones, though, and leave links.

Snape h/c? Be still my heart. I'll take anything.

*g*

(No, really!)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you put the "no, really" bit in because I really did think you were kidding. ;)

I will put together a list over the weekend.

I will put together a list over the weekend.

And I will worship you. Yes.

Snape H/Cs, or better yet Snape/Lupin H/Cs, are my guilty pleasure of choice...

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I so love SS/RL h/c, but only with a broken Snape, funny enough...there is definitely one I'll add to the list, then, that you should check out.

[identity profile] sylvadin.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Rather than calling them stories of 'questionable' value, just refer to them as 'guilty pleasure' reads - such goodies are never intended to be high literature :-)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, there you go! Definitely the perfect wording.

[identity profile] b2wm.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
*admits to being a HP -and oftentimes, fandom,- newbie* Um, what does h/c stand for?

(And guilty pleasures can be a wonderful thing. There's Hurincest on my computer? What Hurincest? *hides evidence*)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
H/c stands for hurt/comfort. I've read a few good h/c stories in LotR fandom, though I avoid the Frodo ones, and that limits the number of h/c stories for me because he is apparently very popular to put through h/c.

[identity profile] deepforestowl.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs*

Come on girl, you gotta share the h/c love. I am looking for some h/c right about now...

what is your ebay name? Maybe you got some stuff I want???

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Two requests? Wow. Well, I'll have to dig up my favorites...it'll take a few days, seeing as my original set of bookmarks has been obliterated. :(

Oh, yes. I always love that scene in Snarry, too. Chiefly because it's a signal for Snape to finally break down, and give it up for Harry! He's had his reservations about the age-inappropriateness of it all, yes, and about the student-teacher relationship, yes. But after a good working over with Cruciatus, he's putty in Harry's hands.

See, for example, Meri Oddities' "Sanguis-Vinculum", or a couple of scenes where coming back from a DE meeting leads to hot sex in Atrata's WiP "In Between Days" (links to both are on [livejournal.com profile] snarry_reader, with the second story in the WiP list.

I love scenes where Snape returns, barely making it back to Grimmauld Place/Hogwarts/Hagrid's Hut/Forbidden Forest...

Oh, I will be checking those out...thanks.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't mean to sound so listless! I'm nearly falling asleep on the keyboard, sorry.

Thank you for the recs!

You didn't sound listless at all! And God knows it sounds like you've had a hell of a couple of days. I'm not sure how you stay awake, with all that driving.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Lots of musing on plot (though too many h/c lying-in-bed scenarios can make me really sleepy, ironically enough), my walkman (I always hope the cops don't notice the giant silver headphones), and, as an absolute last resort, the evil vile Pepsi solution.

Okay, now I'm *really* going to bed.

You can tell how tired I am...I was too tired to use italics and had to resort to the old-fashioned asterisks...

Jean-Claude van Damme rocks, yo. (Well, he can't help it. I think his face is made of solid granite. Next to him, Rob Lowe looks like a grand thespian of the Shakespearean tradition.)

My god. That day there sounds eighteen shades of horrid. I'm so sorry. As for the default lion, it's amusing that it's now so very linked to my mental image of you that sometimes, when not paying attention, I'm visualising an albino lion tapping on AIM when we chat. ;P

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm visualising an albino lion tapping on AIM when we chat.

*giggles* Could be worse. You could be visualizing a lactating hippo with horns.

JCvD is a wonder. I watched some awful movie on cable where he played twins. Then the movie ended and another movie began and he played twins in that movie too.

I guess he's found his niche.

Glad to hear your long day is behind you now! Take it easy for a while - you deserve it!

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Still have an appointment today and two tomorrow...but it's all good. In the long run this will be a good thing.

For once I'll be resting on the weekend like everybody else!

i like your icon. i like your pictures; you have some lovely ones.

wow, you have a busy schedule!

i think i will take a look at this pj harvey.

i just recently discovered kate bush and am in love.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
KATE BUSH IS FABULOUS! I have loved her since 1985. I have all of her main releases. She is absolutely amazing.

Which albums do you have?

[identity profile] gypsyjolie.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
VERY long day. Hey, at least it's over. And I'm just thinking about getting in the car to start the drive to Cleveland tonight.

Hey, are you and G going to be at Rita's on Sunday? Because L and I am. So get your butt over there. *smooches*

[identity profile] gypsyjolie.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
you know what I hate? That I cannot edit a reply.

Anywho - I like the lion. I've been using this icon of mine exclusively for over three months and i'mnot tired of it yet, so it may be permanent.

Are the little Japanese cat prints sold? I shall go check.

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I will be there Sunday!! How absolutely awesome!!! I can't wait to see you. This is so great, I can just give you the gifty there!

Oh, and the prints did sell, though I have a larger one. I was about to put it up, but if you're interested, I'll bring it Sunday and if you like it, it's yours. :)

[identity profile] gypsyjolie.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh, please? I think those cats were so cute!

YAY! See you Sunday!! Luckily, it's started monsooning jsut in time for us to hit the road for the first leg of the trip. :(

[identity profile] gypsyjolie.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
h/c is one of my favorite types of fic... basically all of Faculty-fic and most of the Lotrips that I love is h/c... but I don't read LOTR FPS at all. There's something very satisfying about a character taken down to his essence and then redeemed by love.

Re: h/c

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the vulnerability of it, I love the caring aspect of it...I especially like the moment where it all becomes too overwhelming for the hurt character, and the other character has to step up and help out.

[identity profile] kleio-the-muse.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I love Uh Huh Her! Sends you to another dimension, that does.

Also, I've sort of learnt to love your lion. So nice and stone-y:)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I must now purchase everything she's done. She is amazing.

The lion loves you too! ;)

[identity profile] zakkati.livejournal.com 2005-05-19 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You gotta love that lion!

Whoa. You visited my state. :) Sorry to hear that the visit wasn't very good, and Wendy's is evil, that's the only explanation for square-shaped hamburgers.

I like your default lion icon; it's one of those pictures I'd forever associate with the name now. But if you'd like to thoroughly confuse people, make an animated gif out of it that switches to a new picture every 20 - 30 seconds or so. You'll never have to change icons again. :D

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2005-05-20 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I actually love Wendy's. It is so rare that I eat at fast food places, though...I had no idea that they put some horrible cajun mayo on their grilled chicken sandwiches. Bleh.

An animated icon? Hmm...
