Strange dream
Sep. 26th, 2005 01:03 pmI have always loved movies. For several years I have had this deep desire to direct films...one of those pretentious sekrit dreams, almost as out-there as wanting wings or something.
Anyway, I dreamt this morning that I was working on a movie. I was in the pre-production stage, outlining what I wanted to create, and the images I wanted to use. I was with someone who was a cinematographer, I think, and we were looking at this amazing cemetery that was underwater because it was flooded. It was only about two or three feet underwater, and it was one of the most amazing sights. It was next to New York somehow. (You know how dreams work. Apparently there was also someplace nearby where you could rent unicycles and ride them through the water on the paved pathway of the cemetery. It had to be unicycles because bicycles created too much drag in the water.) Anyway, there was an abandoned marker (er, sorry, gravestone marker) workshop next to it that was dry, and I went in with the cinematographer and we were looking at it. It had been abandoned around the twenties or thirties. I was telling him that this was exactly what I wanted it to look like for the scene in the movie, because I was afraid that when the set decoraters decided to work on it they'd do something crazy like put New England markers with memento mori-style engravings in the shop, when that wasn't the local style in New York, and the workshop was supposed to look like it was abandoned in the twenties. I was giving some impressive lecture on how little details matter when suddenly I was actually in the movie.
It was rather crack!tacular. It starred Brad Pitt and a woman who might have been Rachel Weisz or Katie Holmes, very short and slight. The movie was set ten years in the future, and they were somehow involved in some sort of prophecy. They were both supposed to kill each other, yet somehow they developed feelings for each other, and part of the movie's basic conceit was the whole will-they-or-won't-they. Brad goes and picks up Kachel (or is it Ratie?) from where she lives, and the whole city is somehow dark and old and strange. They wander about, and then come to an old arena of some sorts, or some sort of giant, decaying building. They go in, and he mentions that he knows of a place to see something beautiful. So they wander about, and he buys her ice cream, but she's so hesitant about accepting it from him, she thinks he's up to something, but the ice cream vendor seems legit, and she's really beginning to trust Brad. So she starts to eat the ice cream (mint chocolate chip, ugh, I hate that flavor) and remarks that it's so much better than the last ice cream they shared, and he smiles that smile where his face is blank. He takes her to the edge of that floor and there are these huge windows with concrete strips between them, and they watch the sun set, and it's amazingly gorgeous, all orange and dark yellow with wispy thin clouds and the city and the water all glimmering.
A security guard comes up, and Brad knows him, and talks to him for a moment. The security guard's name is Hector, and he has an iPod-like device, and Brad asks him what he's listening to now, and he says Coolio. Brad says, oh? And Hector explains that it's an incredible new album from the washed-up artist, a concept album with amazing style, and then wanders away.
It's growing dark now, and there is a moment where they're walking down the streets, and Alan Rickman is there in the most bizarre alien makeup. Steel tubing in his hair, wires, strangeness, and totally and completely electrified blue eyes. They even glow. He is somehow associated with Brad, and he is rather unhinged, and the cause of Brad's mission to kill Kachel. He only watches, hidden, and then there is a shot of his eyes and the most insane teeth-baring grin (a closeup).
Something happens, an argument, Kachel was already feeling really sick about having to kill him but knows it's inevitable, and then they are battling, leaping off buildings and just throwing down, though Brad looks horrible, regretful, doesn't want to do this. They keep going at it, they're in a graveyard, and a force appears somehow over one of the larger graves, and they're continuing to fight at the larger grave that looks almost like the ruined wall of a cathedral.
That's all I remember.

Date: 2005-09-27 10:55 am (UTC)For years I had insanely vivid, strange, and eclectic dreams. I remember that during high school and early college I would wake up and not know who I was or where I was. Sometimes I would be mystified by the alarm clock beeping.
At times I was:
*rescuing sorority bunnies from a brown dumpster
*Prince Michael, taking his people to safety from a terrible black blobby menace
*Death, with waterproof boots
*in Hell
*the spiritual/military leader of a rag-tag group of people in an apocalyptic future (a matriarchal society, in fact)
Now I never have moments of confusion when I wake up. My dreams are pretty random, still, but they've calmed down, and I only occasionally have one where I'm watching as Kachel and Brad fight among gravestones.

Date: 2005-09-27 10:56 am (UTC)I will grudgingly admit that Cuaron did a really artistic and interesting movie, but I wish he hadn't distorted canon quite so much, or at least filmed a little more so that we could have had a longer version.
