As you can tell, I've been doing some sort of Doomy Doom Doom thing about work and schedules and my life.

Today I sat down and finally did my end-of-year eBay totals.

*blinks*

Even though I was only home about six/seven months this year, I made more than at my day job. About a third more, in fact.

*blinks again*

I think I can quit my day job now. I think I'm about to entirely change my life.

(I'll wait until after I get home from AZ, of course.)

ETA: Just so that you know--I don't have health insurance, sick time, or vacation time. I am strictly contingent at my job, and I only work two or three days a week (when I'm in MI).

I'm really surprised--I had no idea it was going so well. All that work paid off, apparently! I am definitely going to invest more time and effort into it this year.

Do you get health insurance through work? If so, factor how expensive an emergency could be before you quit work.

Other than that, congratulations!

That sounds pretty promising! Have you included the cost of health insurance in those claCULATIONS? And vacation time? and just plain sick leave?

Good luck.

I don't have health insurance, hence the numerous troubles concerning my PCOS and such. ;)

I am contingent, and receive no health insurance, vacation time, or sick leave.

Leaving would mean less money, but it would also cut down (just a little) on my expenses, too.

Who is this? [livejournal.com profile] blumsmile, it sounds like you. Or could this be my elusive older sister? ;)

Thanks!

I have a friend who makes her living off Ebay. Her hubby lost his job and she started selling on Ebay. She haunted garage sales, flea markets, resale shops, you name it. She made enough money to support their family of six without any income from him for many months. As far as I know, she's still at it. I'd like to pay her to teach me her secrets so I could give it a go, I don't even need to make as much as she does - just more than I do now.
I hope this works out, I think it just might be something that really works for you. Good luck! *hugs*

I've been slowly but surely starting to understand eBay, and even though I have several doomy thoughts, I'm starting to realize that it's worth it to have more time at home to work on it. It's going to be really hard to stop working my little part time job--but in the end, the expenses of working there (gas and buying lunch) and the long drive and lunch hour mean that it would actually give me lots of time and it wouldn't be as big a hit as I thought it would be to stop working there.

Plus, I'm not certain how long they're going to stay in business, honestly.

Aw, thanks, sweetie! I'm really hoping it works out--with the house and all, it could be a crazy decision, but G is soundly in favor of getting rid of the job, surprisingly enough. *blinks in surprise*

(PS: the MP3 player is a huge hit--he was sitting on the couch last night listening to it with a huge grin on his face!!)
