I added a few "characterkus" (haikus told from a specific character's point of view) to [livejournal.com profile] quirkyhpshorts and the squid poem I had originally put on [livejournal.com profile] privatemaladict's journal. Two people have joined! I'm excited about the community.

I am just now finished catching up on the flist. I read everyone's LJ one at a time, and it was really interesting to read several entries like that in a row from the same person. You get a much better feel for their overall tone. It was unusual to see everyone's layouts, as well, because normally I read the flist entries through my friends page. Anyway, I'm done with the people, now it's time to start in on the communities.

I am considering a de-friending. I've never done one before, but this mass reading experience has shown me that there are a few people on the list with whom I have little or nothing in common, and there are people who have never commented on my journal and I've never commented on theirs. I'm going to take a long look at the list. I'll be gone a lot this year, and I can't always spend thirteen hours catching up on the flist. :(

I should be working on the new chapter but all I want to do is write more squid poems.

There's an LJ Nifty thing that lets you see who comments the most, so you can use that to work out who never comments. I keep meaning to do that. I think, if they don't comment, then they probably are not all that interested.

I usually unfriend abandoned journals. But that's not going to help you, much.

I've tried that Nifty thing. It's worked once for me, and then never worked again.

I think I know which ones I would delete...I just have to think about it a little more. I really don't want to offend anyone.

Oh, I know. Sometimes people take it SO SERIOUSLY! I defriended someone I didn't really talk to (she only ever seemed to post excerpts from Delitrius on her journal, and if I wanted to read that I'd be on the community, anyway), and she went nuts! Emailing me, huge wailing and weeping in her own journal about how she thought we had a 'relationship' and she'd only got a journal so she could be closer to me, etc etc. Freaky. Thankfully she unfriended me a few months later, anyway.

That is exactly what I'm afraid of. I'll write it up as plainly and politely as possible, but I'm still so hesitant to go through with it.

PS: Love the Sweet & Sour archive.

I can't find how to become either a friend or to join, in spite of your clear directions. I also tried to put my (ahem) contribution behind a cut, w/ a clear warning, and it didn't work. (And I used the directions you gave.)

I'm sorry. As many will tell you, I'm very sorry. But then you could figure that out by just reading what I posted.

Yeah, I've been thinking about de-friending, too. My f-list has really grown over the past couple of months, and it's getting to be very hard to keep up with it. And there are a few people with whom I hardly ever communicate. Of course, there are also a few who never post at all! There are several like that on my f-list. They friended me, so I friended them back, and since then, they have never commented on any of my entries, and what's more, they never posted any of their own! Do they read my LJ? Are they waiting for me to reveal secrets about myself so they can blackmail or stalk me? Who knows...

I've been considering the same. There are people that have friended me (and I have no idea where they even found me) that never comment and I never see them post either. Hmm...

I, too, hate to offend. Hope you keep me on, though. I've grown rather fond of our conversations. ~g~ But if I am cut, I won't take it personally. Promise. ~g~

I love looking at people's LJ layouts. I tend to forget they're not all pink and purple like mine!

Am trying to come up with a squid poem, but so far I have no inspiration. Maybe I'll try for a drabble instead!

Okay. Go to [livejournal.com profile] quirkyhpshorts and then click on "user info" at the top right-hand corner.

Once there, you will see a phrase that says "Below is information about the "Quirky HP Shorts" community on LiveJournal. To join this community, click here. You may leave the community at any time." The "click here" part is underlined. Click on that. This will take you to a new page, which will say "Do you want to join this community?" or something to that effect. Click on the button that says "quirkyhpshorts" and you will be added to the community.

And then there you go. At the same time it will add you as a friend, I believe, if you leave the green checkmark in the box.

Don't worry about it! This stuff is mostly HTML-based, and can get a bit frustrating at times. ;)

I wonder the same thing!

Then there are the LJs where I comment, but never get replied to, and that's disheartening, unless it's an artist's LJ, where a hundred people are shouting "great pic!"

I'm not as worried about de-friending the non-commenters as I am about a handful of people who are really nice but I just don't seem to have anything in common with anymore. I really do like them, but I can only keep track of so many lives, y'know? :)

After reading [livejournal.com profile] iibnf's story about de-friending someone who never commented in her journal and then receiving long weepy e-mails from them and seeing it bemoaned in the other's journal for days I'm a little freaked out, though.

I would never de-friend your Spike-luvin' FF-playin' Sims-warpin' loveliness, my dear. ;) You're one of my faves.

Drabbles are the awesomeness! Join the comm and you'll have all the space for squid poetry that your heart desires. Mwa ha ha!

Believe it or not, I have managed to write a 'squid limerick' this afternoon! I was just about to post it when your comment came up! It's rather crap to say the least, but it's a first attempt! I'll post it now - feel free to delete if it is too awful!

I just joined your community, because all the entries so far were so fun to read. :)
I don't think I'll ever write squid poetry myself, though. Would a poem from Grawp's point of view be quirky enough? Because that's something I'm thinking about writing.
