Hmmm...finally got my LJ MindMap.

It purports to "[visualize] interrelationships within the LiveJournal community". After examining it, I think it's a visual interpretation of LJ cliques. Not sure, though.

A-ha! No, I get it now! It's just a map. Seriously. It plots where everybody actually lives physically. No, wait, it does list their physical location, but...okay, I admit, I have absolutely no idea what the hell this is. It doesn't make a lot of sense because deepforestowl is listed towards the edge in teeny print, and she's one of the people I communicate with most frequently, while khames, with whom I have traded maybe three comments, is huge print and near the center.

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. Or maybe it was just confusing.

ETA: gillieweed and scatteredlogic have figured it out...it's a visual LJ clique representation. It compares the flists of everyone on your flist, and those with the most people in common show up close to the center. Now it makes more sense!

I know the brackets represent people with MindMaps of their own. I tried to decipher the algorithm one time but I gave up, for lack of coffee I think. Something about shared friends? Or interests? Can't remember.

Anyway. Am amused that I'm the salami in a absurdwords - junediamanti sandwich. The Internet is good to me. ;)

As far as I can tell, it's supposed to plot out your flist's relationship with each other. The people in the larger, brighter type have more friends in common with you and each other and are grouped according to those friends, then the next set is the larger, less bright type who have fewer friends in common with each other and you, then the smaller type, etc. At least, I think that's how it works. I read the explanation and some of it was a little vague, so I may be completely wrong.

The maps are really cool to look at, though. ;)

I kinda figured it out. It looks at your F'list. Then it sees who on your F'list has the same people on their F'list. And so on and so on...remember that shampoo commercial? So the people in BIG have F'lists very similar to yours and basically that's it.

You were pretty close in your orgininal idea that "it's a visual interpretation of LJ cliques."

Yeah so people you never, ever talk to, but read their LJs just for fun can be shown prominently just because you have similar F'lists. People you talk to every day can show up in the dark corners (or not at all *sulks*) just because you find them interesting outside your usual Teh Populahr clique.

It's weird, because I have 120+ people on the flist, and only 80+ showed up here. Huh.

And you and I have one person on the flist in common, so this is even more bizarre, you should have showed up...I have two people on the mindmap that I have no one in common with! Oh well, I guess nothing's perfect.
