Congratulations to all the winners! *applauds*

On a side note, I told you I wouldn't win, and I was right. And no, this isn't the "sulky" valis coming out, it's the realistic! The winners are all "classics"/tremendously popular/great fics. TLS just does not have that kind of readership at the moment. I haven't really done enough publicity, and it's lingering on a bit too long. Plus there are some unique problems for most average readers of SS/OFC, I think, namely a bit too much on the violence scale, and an OFC who isn't, well, likeable, in some ways. I am still astonished that it was nominated, and really happy that it was involved in the competition at all. w00t for me!

There is nothing to stop your story being nominated in the next round, and winning then. The bits I've seen of it, it was as good to win as any of 'em and better than some.

And I think the nomination is the honour, too. It means someone (or a few someones) liked your fic enough to take the trouble. That's no bad thing.

I've heard, but not seen, that there have been cases of authors really putting the screws on at their "yahoo groups" or wherever, even a rumour of someone giving out some angst fest story of an angsty boyfriend break up (I think this is true, because I believe who told me, though I did not see it for themselves).

In equal fairness, I did not see anyone on this list of winners who I thought would do that, from what I know of them.

Exactly. And I'm happy that it happened!

This whole experience just reminds me that I need to put a little more effort in, that's all. I need to get the Giant Revision Project finished (including a Britpicking), and write the rest. Then I'll start on the last wave of "PR". Honestly, I never remember to put updates on the few Yahoo groups I belong to, and I always forget to mention it on appropriate LJ comms...I'm just a mess at blowing my own horn, honestly. But for the sake of the story I think I'm going to try to really get it going, once I've made it the best I can possibly can.

Big hugs and vats of wine for us non-winners! :D Y'know, I couldn't have lost to nicer people. So that's something.

I really like your OFC. I really like tLS. I was impressed that so many original characters were nominated. I always feel that we're viewed as the red-headed bastard stepchildren at the family reunion. :-) I certainly wish you the best of luck in the next round because I'm certain you will be nominated again.

And it really is an honor to be nominated. There were many good stories on the list.

I also feel the same way about OFCs. People tend to write them off, I think.

And congratulations to you again! That's wonderful!

There's this liqueur we tried while we were in Cairns on a Food and Wine tour that's fabulous. They're located near Mareemba. Their banana liqueur and Davidson Plum liqueur are absolutely astonishing. It's at Mt Uncle Distillery (http://www.mtuncle.com/).

Dunno about banana, not a big fan of fake banana, but one day I'd like to try somethign plum. although this pear stuff nearly killed me. The honey liqueur is making it hard to type. SCHWEET!

Nonono, they grow their own bananas, dahling, and use them for the liqueur. It's fabulous. And they make lemon liqueur and lime liqueur. And coffee liqueur. I think it's all grown nearby. The lemons and limes and coffee, I mean.

Congrats on the nomination. Considering the sheer number of Harry Potter fanfics out there, being nominated does mean something. Kind of weird how the contests (both Multifaceted and Quills) ended within two weeks of each other.

I didn't win either (at Quills), but I was so shocked to be nominated that I don't care. They've got judges, not voting. Still--someone actually read my story. (And liked it--weird.)

Maybe you'll get nominated again. But with nearly 200,000 HP fanfics on ffn alone, being nominated is awesome.
