valis2: Stone lion face (Last Sanguimagus)
[personal profile] valis2
I've finally finished chapter 70. Huzzah! And now I feel quite invigorated, because chapter 71 & 72 are extremely important and will be monsters. I can't wait.

I've broken the 130,000 mark.

If any of you who did not put yourselves down for a tLS CD are curious about the songs on it, here is a listing...

The Last Sanguimagus CD

Severusmusic

Track #1: “Bones and Joints”, fingereleven (album: Greyest of Blue Skies)

Cloud my eyes and tell me what to see/I'm falling
Every way I turn the same disease/But I like it
Brace myself and hit the wall with ease/Colliding
I'm not minding the pain
I've been down here before
All my bones and joints are sore

I always think of the Cruciatus Curse here, and spying on Voldemort..."Cloud my eyes and tell me what to see" reminds me so much of his use of Occlumency to thwart Voldemort's Leglimency.

Find my way out of the wreck again
I've been down here before
Lost myself and so much more
Find my way out of the game again
Open up my head and take it in

This reminds me of Dumbledore, perhaps pulling Snape's thoughts out (from a willing Snape)...Snape has been spying before, this is his second round, and he's still looking for a way "out of the game".

What you need the most from me is yours
I'll continue to deceive you my friend
You lost what made you you
Or maybe I never knew
I can't stay here anymore
Give it all or you're on your own

Track #2: "Firefly", Breaking Benjamin (album: We Are Not Alone)

Bring me your enemies, lay them before me, and walk away...walk away...

I love this line. I have, over the years, put together a few different Snapes in my head, and one of my favorite Snapes is the dark, brooding, possessive, full Death Eater Snape. I mean full as in loyal Death Eater, out there with the others, not back doing "potions research" in a bunker/lab. I can imagine him consumed with someone, fully and totally obsessed, and willing to do anything for them, willing to crush anyone who gets in their way.

Track #3: "Let You Down", Three Days Grace, (album: Three Days Grace)

Trust me
There's no need to fear
Everyone's here
Waiting for you to finally be one of us
Come down
You may be full of fear
But you'll be safe here
When you finally trust me
Finally believe in me
I will let you down
I'll let you down...

This I imagine as the Death Eaters waiting expectantly for Severus to become one of them in a little ritual where they apply the Dark Mark. "You may be full of fear/But you'll be safe here" is exactly the kind of comfort he's looking for, after facing his childhood and his school years, I think. And of course, when he finally trusts them, something presumably goes wrong, I think, because here he is, working for Dumbledore. Or, well, not.

Track #4: "Never Let Me Down", Depeche Mode (album: Music for the Masses)

I’m taking a ride
With my best friend
I hope he never lets me down again
He knows where he’s taking me
Taking me where I want to be
I’m taking a ride
With my best friend

We’re flying high
We’re watching the world pass us by
Never want to come down
Never want to put my feet back down
On the ground...

Never let me down

I always imagine this as a Severus/Lucius song...I always imagine a complex set of loyalties between the two, or at least from Severus.

Track #5: “Noose”, A Perfect Circle (album: Thirteenth Step)

I’m more than just a little curious how you’re planning to go about making your amends to the dead.

This I can imagine Lucius singing to Severus.

Track #6: "The Life & Death of Mr. Bad Mouth", P J Harvey (album: Uh Huh Her)

Baby, you got a bad bad mouth
Everything is poison that's coming out...

No kind words are coming out of your mouth
Plenty goes in but nothing good comes out
Badmouth, sad mouth, you were an unhappy child
That doesn't make your lying tongue alright...

The image of Snape spewing poison is quite forceful. I find myself thinking about him and his lying tongue, his lips that taste like poison...

Sarahmusic

Track #7: “Nobody’s Home”, Avril Lavigne (album: Under My Skin)

As much as I don’t really care for Avril Lavigne, this song somehow captures Sarah near-perfectly.

Track #8: “Taking It All Too Hard”, Genesis (album: Genesis)

Oh no, not this confused again
Oh no, not the same mistakes again...
The old days are gone
And they’re better left alone

Sarah is thinking about a past relationship, and hoping that she isn’t about to repeat a past mistake.

Track #9: “Duck and Run”, 3 Doors Down (album: The Better Life)

This reminds me so much of Sarah, given nothing, but won’t shirk her duty nonetheless.

This world can turn me down,
But I won’t turn away...
This world cannot bring me down,
Because I’m already here.

SeverusandSarahmusic

Track #10: Dātura, Tori Amos (album: To Venus and Back)

Is there room in my heart
For you to follow your heart
And not need more blood
From the tip of your star

Sarah wondering about Severus.

Track #11: "Song of Solomon", Kate Bush (album: The Red Shoes)

The Song of Solomon
The song of everyone
Who walks the path
Of the solitary heart

For them both, naturally.

Track #12: "You Come Through", P J Harvey (album: Uh Huh Her)

We are waiting
For the summer
The sun will bring back
Treasures for us...

You come through for me
You come true for me
You be well for me
You come through for me

Track #13: “Time is Running Out”, Muse (album: Absolution)

Oh, this song just makes me think all sorts of thoughts, about the two of them fighting, about him leaving for certain death, or her leaving for certain death, and a fierce kiss shared between two dark souls...and she really was almost the death of him, and him of her...

Writing music

Track #14: “The Beekeeper”, Tori Amos (album: The Beekeeper)

I wrote the Bonfire arc to this song. Even now, when I read those chapters, I can’t help but play this song. Especially the chapter with the Manticore incident.

Track #15: “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3”, Coheed & Cambria (album: In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3)

I plan on writing the final chapters to this. Actually, I think it’s awesome music for an epic Hogwarts battle, and sometimes when I read this I think of the armies of the Dark Lord descending upon the school. I especially like the parallels of the wars of the fathers being passed on to the wars of the sons.

Track #16: “Stand up. Sit down.” Radiohead, (album: Hail to the Thief)

Great for a stirring crescendo.
