Last night I nearly swallowed a chicken bone. One of those long thin ones from the side of the breast. It really freaked me out because I half swallowed it and just barely got it out. One of those freaky moments where you just think...could I have dialed 911? Would they have gotten here in time? Scary.

Then just now I decided to have a drink. I went into the kitchen and grabbed a Jarritos (mandarin orange flavor, yum) pop from the fridge. They're yummy, they use cane sugar instead of corn syrup (usually), and they're still bottled in glass. I grabbed a bottle opener (they don't have twist-off caps) to take the cap off.

Cor blimey, it was stubborn. I attacked it from different angles but it thwarted my first opener utterly. So I grabbed another opener and tried that one. Still the same. Finally I managed to pop it off. I went to put it to my lips, but then I thought something seemed odd so I paused.

Jarritos

I've never seen this happen before. And trust me, I used to drink a lot of pop when it came in glass bottles. At least ten bottles a week. This freaked me out. If I hadn't noticed, it would have sliced my lips up.

Brr!

ETA: Okay, now I've cut my hand putting it into the recycling bin. Clearly I should not operate any heavy machinery any time soon.

The hell? I mean, I don't drink soda but I do drink an awful lot of hard cider out of glass bottles just like that, and I've never seen it break like that. Wow. Glad you had that sixth sense.

Isn't that bizarre? I didn't notice at first because I dropped the cap in the trash. But it just felt wrong...a teeny bit too heavy, and it felt like the edges weren't spaced out enough, and so I looked at the opening just before I went to drink. I did it a bit quickly and ended up slopping orange pop on myself, but it was worth it not to have to go to the ER for lip stitches.

What the hell is the universe trying to tell me now? Weird.

I'm so glad you escaped both incidents unharmed. :)

I've had the same thing happen with a glass bottle before, a few times. :(

But...Jarritos is SO good. I love the Lime and Pineapple flavors too, and have it on good word that the Tamarind is quite luscious.

I have a bottle of Tamarind in the fridge that I'm almost afraid to try. It just looks so odd. But the Lime...oh, yum!

Never seen the Pineapple flavor, alas.

And yes, I'm so happy that I am still breathing and my lips are attached!

Jarritos Tamarindo is my favorite. It tastes kind of weird--I don't know how to describe the flavor--but it's just about the only soda I'll drink, anymore. Gotta have something besides beer to wash down a chile verde burrito, after all...

I opened another bottle of mandarin orange, but for some reason it just isn't satisfying. *shrugs* Some days you can't win!

yeah, you got lucky you didn't slice your lips off. i've had this happen a couple of times. my theory is the bottle gets tapped a little too hard during shipping or putting on display and then opening it just finishes the job. Glad you weren't hurt.

swansmooches!

It was quite weird. I am almost thinking that the cap was on too tightly and the thickness of the metal might have been just a hair too much, because it didn't really "open" at all.

Aw, *lionsmooches* to you!

You'd like Australia - everything is made with sugar cane here. Makes the cokes taste really different. Not better, not worse, but different.

I usually like root beer made with cane sugar better than root beer made with high fructose corn syrup. The taste is the same, but sometimes I think there is this sticky aftertaste to the corn syrup. Though I'm probably imagining it, now that I think about it.

I'll probably mail your package out on Monday, btw, if I can get to the store over the weekend.

Weird, beyond a doubt. It reminds me of a film I saw ages ago, where some students evaded death by stepping off a plane that crashed shortly after take off, thanks to one of them having a vision minutes before.

They spend the rest of the film running away from death and trying to work out the signs of the next time it will come after them.

I think there is a part 2, as well... It might be called Final Destination.

Yeah, I remember reading Ebert's review for that movie.

Boy, I had better be careful today, huh? Perhaps I should just hide under the couch.

It's a good thing that you looked. I've never seen a bottle do that before! Sorry about your hand, though.

It was really crazy! I never expected that. The metal of the cap wouldn't give at all.
