Fascinating essay about HBP
Dec. 19th, 2005 02:37 pmI thought it was an interesting set of thoughts on the subject. And I also had one of the same thoughts, that as a mystery novel, HBP wasn't quite as up to the mysteries of the other five.

Date: 2005-12-20 03:13 am (UTC)I have said repeatedly that HBP was written first and foremost to make everything seem warm and fuzzy (Harry has friends that will get him through the horrors of Book Seven, he is finally seeming to be getting things right rather than just being clueless, that people are all lined up in good and evil lines, etc.) and then JKR is gonna rip out our guts in Books Seven. Nothing will be as it seemed at the end of HBP and people will die and good will turn out to be on evil's side and vice versa. I believe that the second reasonit was written was to kill off Dumbledore, who had to die because he was a big shield between Harry and his destiny. Dumbledore had to die in order for Harry to truly be tested, no safety net, no wise father-figure to turn to.
I am SO excited for Book Seven. If JKR doesn't keep me on the edge of my seat, I will be sorely mistaken and I shall take away her writing gold star.
Also, I believe that Snape will be redeemed (errr, explained?) in Seven.
