I have to mention...

...that I just read a highly original, lovely piece of work by
rinsbane called the Medicamentarius.
It's SS/KS, so if you don't like that pairing (or slash), don't click. The NC-17 portion is quite tame, only a paragraph, if that. An awesome fic, I enjoyed it thoroughly. It had unique applications of magic, thoughtful magical details, and great characterization, all of which I love to death. Check it out if you care for the pairing. It's in two parts, not very long, and quite rewarding.

Date: 2006-06-26 02:11 am (UTC)I seem to be incapable of writing anything that's not lyrical, to use your word. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, because I enjoy writing in that style most of all. But I'm not sure that I could vary my style as much as I would like to, just in theory. If that makes sense. Anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed my fic!

Date: 2006-06-26 02:15 am (UTC)I am so interested in reading what else you've written, but it will have to wait until I come back from Hawaii.
I wrote a rant once about how the HP fandom sometimes seems to forget that it's in a magical universe, and that we really need to write more fic peppered with unique little magical details, and I have to say, it was such a delight to read yours, with the imaginative stripping of the peacock plants...I adored it. :)

I agree with you about the magical elements. I adore reading fic that's full of them. They add an extra dimension to the fic, and as you say, one of the reasons many of us love HP to begin with is for the magic that infuses the novels. I rarely try to think such things up deliberately, but they sometimes come to me as I'm writing as things that just belong. In small ways, of course. Or at least I like to think so. Perhaps I flatter myself unduly. *g* Enjoy your trip.

Date: 2006-09-15 03:56 pm (UTC)I screwed up the recs tag, though, and need to fix it. I think there are one or two fics marked "fic recs" so I need to condense the tags into one.

Date: 2006-09-15 04:13 pm (UTC)I just finished reading Soul Play by snapesforte and enjoyed it very much as well. I'm enthralled with both your versions of Snape --- they're quite different takes on the character and really show me how ambiguous a figure he still is. We have all this canon, but so little real insight. It's leading to some really interesting places.
