I spent a LOT less time than usual on the internet in the past two weeks. (Sorry to all of my regular chat partners!) In this time, as I've mentioned, I put up a new desk just for eBay stuff and cleaned and organized some areas of the apartment.

I also spent a LOT of time working on new eBay things to list. I really poured a lot of energy into it. It paid off. I wasn't certain what would happen, but the week before Labor Day I thought, I'll list a ton of items. Either a) everyone will be consumed with kids and back-to-school stuff and there will be nothing; or b) everyone will be online as the weather changes.

Apparently it was b, and I'm thrilled. The last few sets of listings have drawn a lot more attention than they normally do. This week was the best week ever. So I've been spending more time than ever printing things out and boxing things and hanging out at the post office.

I'm going to be home a lot this fall, which is good, because this is when the dayjob pretty much shifts into overdrive and heaps all of the work on me.

I'm still riding out the motivated tidal wave. I've even pulled out all of the empty frames I've purchased over the years, and I'm actually doing something.

You see, the normal formula runs something like this:

a) I decide to do some large project.
b) I bring it all together.
c) I think about it.
d) I decide I'm missing some vital component, which will take a trip to the store, or contacting someone, etc.
e) Project gets put back into the storage closet.

So I'm ecstatic that my usual "block" isn't working with the photos.

Plus, I'm going to put the two incredible drawings [livejournal.com profile] snapesforte made for me into frames. I'm finally just going to bite the bullet and start working on my "fandom corner", which is where the computer sits. If I'm going to sit here all the damn time, I might as well make it fun to look at as well.

The flist is picking up, I see. For a few weeks it seemed like nothing was going on, but this morning I was at skip 90 after only twelve hours, so it's getting to the busy winter season. I don't know if I can keep up. I think I have to do a defriending, or at least a decomming (I have to say goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] pottersues, and, unfortunately, [livejournal.com profile] hires_hunks.)

Filters are the best thing ever. I filter out all my comms and only read them when I have extra time. That way, when I do have time I can still see even the friends locked community postings, but I don't have 80 pages of posts to read through every day. I swear by it.

Yeah, I have heard of the Cult of Filters, but I have never personally used them.

I'm OCD, and I like seeing every entry on my fpage. I read everything. The thing is, if I'm no longer reading someone's entries, or some comm's entries, I just defriend them, and problem solved. I like the flist to be exactly what I am reading right now.

And for comms, I hate the thought that I might miss a great bit of fic, so I hesitate to filter them as well. When I'm gone for a while I generally leave them for last, but I bookmark everything I want to read later.

It usually works for about six months, and then I have to cut back a bit on the flist. Usually I defriend people whose entries I'm skipping over, who don't seem to comment on my entries and I don't seem to comment on theirs.

What sort of things do you list on Ebay? I'm curious.

Bizarrely enough, one of the rounds I just listed was entirely books, and I was surprised at how well a few of them sold.

Normally, though, it's the components of my craft. I haven't put up any craft pieces yet, because I doubt they would sell well. People on eBay are sometimes either cheap or collectorish or both. heh.

Having a fandom space is so important! I have my desk (well, it's a table) with all my computer equipment and it's surrounded by posters (right now I have a Doctor Who poster on one side and my Tom Baker -- yes another Doctor from the show -- signed picture on the other). I also have my action figures arranged on it as well as some Hello Kitty things. It's really bizarre to see the Ninth and Tenth Doctors (in a variety of styles) standing next to my two Illyria's from Angel and my Snape with his cauldron (and popping green snake). Poor Snape...he's also standing next to my Hello Kitty. *snorfle* Oh and I have a knitted Marvin there too.

When you're done you could start a show us your geek space meme! It would be evil and stuff, o Valismort. :D

I really am in total agreement with you about the fan space. Though it's taken...oh...about three years now to get around to it! ha!

Ooh, you have to take pics of your space! Yes, we should definitely start a "geek space meme"! That's awesome!

I want to see the Illyria action figures. I do recall the naughty Snape and his cauldron...I think you took pics of that before, perhaps.

:) Tom Baker rules.

I shall take some photos tonight...if I remember. My brain's been toast lately. :D I really would love to see yours too!

The Illyria figures rock. I have some photos with her and Snape at the convention last year I must put up! She's wonderfully rendered, and Lian gave me the rare one with her in her outfit just after Fred died and became her. *note, must get a Fred figure*

Naughty Snape is still there...but he's having a hard time keeping all these Doctors in line! Poor Snape. *pets* Illyria isn't helping much, though he finds her tight red outfit entertaining. *snicker*

The Tom Baker pic is framed with some other pics (a kind of montage thing) and was a gift from my dad who knows my obessions far too well. I have a signed Peter Davison picture too somewhere and the poster on the wall is of Slyvester McCoy and Paul McGann (and signed by PM...woot!).

Oh and I forgot my sonic screwdriver! That's also on my desk. *snicker*

I also have my geek shelves...home to my Snape wand...

Oh, that would be awesome if you took photos!

I'm so behind in my Fandom Desk. I have nothing remotely fandom on it! Very boring, actually. But if I get the drawings framed, I'll take pics tonight! w00t!

Sonic screwdriver?! HAHAHA! That rocks. Utterly. I'm all jealous now!

LOL! Well, it makes noise too and lights up! You can get them on ebay (though you'll pay more) and in comic/scifi shops in the UK.

Here are some pictures!

Here is the current sonic screwdriver with Barty Crouch Jr. the Tenth Doctor on the box:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Here is the one I have with the Ninth Doctor on the box (though mine is out of the box and played with):

And here is one out of the box...

It's like have a wand with a blue light and little wizzy sounds!

And now I've done spamming you with that...you must take pictures as I'd love to see these pictures! *nods* Is the picture Acid did for you going up too? Wait that was done on the computer...gah...so confused!

omg, those are awesome!

Now I'm utterly jealous that we don't live in the UK! Waaah!

Barty looks awesome! Argh! I'm so totally behind in my Whoing.

I'm definitely putting up a printout of Ac1d's incredible art! Time to put the photo printer to good use, lol.

*hugs*

Good, because Acid's picture was amazing! *grins*

Do you get the SciFi channel? Barty'sThe Tenth Doctor's run starts on Sept 29th at 8:00. And they're doing a huge marathon of some of the Ninth Doctor's episodes that morning from 8am-3pm that will lead you up to they start at 8. :D

There...no excuses...cuz there's always ze internets.

You can get the sonic screwdriver on ebay, but I recommend going through an American distribution place. I know one or two shops that sell Who stuff over here if you're interested. That or beg your friends that live over there shamelessly like I did ask nicely people you know over in that part of the world to pick you up one.

Ooooo, home time in 10 mins...yay!

I can so relate to your "block." I have that as well... Yet, it feels so good to unblock. I am working on it as well, and autumn is definitely the time!

The fandom corner sounds like it is going to be awesome. If you want to post photos, that would be really cool... :-)

Autumn really seems to have jumped up and bit me! I'm usually never so totally energized. I'm a bit surprised at how much I've done in past couple weeks.

If I get things framed and if I hang them, I'll definitely snap pics tonight!

How did that big box of beads - or whatever it was that you had a surplus of - do? I remember you mentioning you didn't think it would sell, and then you had people watching it the very next day. I was just thinking about that post you made regarding that lot and then you made this Ebay post and it reminded me.

Neither of the big lots I put up sold the first time. Then I was privately contacted by someone, and she bought four lots' worth of them.

It's expensive to list something expensive, so I really wobbled about putting them up again, but this time both of them sold! And for more than I expected! That's why this week was so big. Yay!

It sounds like you've been keeping really busy and accomplished IRL - good for you!

I know I went through a couple of months this summer where I pulled back a bit from LJ - no particular reason, and certainly nothing that anyone said or did - I just needed a break. But now I'm happily posting and replying again!

Right now I'm busy working on photos. I've hung up a couple and I'm printing out more. Happy happy joy joy!

OMG, how did you know how I work? "You know, I just need a bigger dyepot and then I'll be able to start. Let me fo search for the perfect thing." This is why I'm still just starting the pieces for my portfolio.

Glad to hear your energy is still getting so much done!

bwahaha! There you go, you know my pain! I really have to force myself to do things, honestly. I put things on the mental back shelf, and there they sit, for ages and ages...heh.

I'm getting to the manic point, where I'm pulling out TOO MANY projects now that I have a second wind. I'm trying to keep myself on track, but I keep adding to the pile! wah!
