It's called Scale of Dragon, Tooth of Wolf, and it's by an author (
ebonlock) I haven't read before, which is always fun. I like to take chances sometimes, and read new or unknown authors, and I'm so glad I clicked on this one.
It's Snupin, set post-war, which I'm always drawn to. But this takes the standard fanfic plots one step further and includes a murder mystery, which I found irresistable. I have not seen many of these at all in the fandom, and this stands out. It's fairly long (70K) and nicely plotty, with excellent characterization of both Snape and Lupin. I was really drawn into the fic. I think it's terrific.
The author has an unusual style, and the story is told in Lupin's POV, first-person. It was a bit surprising at first, because I haven't seen the first-person POV used as often in fandom, but it was done well. The real standout is the psychology of the fic, which is also something unusual. We really see what is going on with Lupin, and we guess at things outside him as well. He comes to some harsh realizations about himself during the fic. The author has some terrific insights into his character. Overall, I have only a quibble or two about commas, and that's probably more stylistic than anything.
If you're in the mood for a nice long Snupin fic for a rainy/snowy night, it's perfect. I really enjoyed it a lot. I am warning you, it is rated R for a reason.
ETA: Apparently a few of the links weren't filled in by the author afterward. This is a COMPLETED story, I promise.
Two of the missing links:
Chapter 1, Part 3
and Chapter 2, Part 1
