Today I was awakened by the kind of phone call you don't really want to get. It was a store asking me where I was.

Yes, I screwed up the dates of a trunk show and had to take a frantic shower and drive like a crazy woman to get to a show. *sigh* I knew it had to happen eventually; I've been doing this sort of thing for five years, and thinking that, at some point, I had to end up getting the dates messed up somewhere.

Well, it happened today. Thank goodness the store owner is a total sweetheart, because she didn't seem to mind too much, but I felt like a total heel. The show wasn't that great, but at least there's a positive lining; I won't have to drive like a bat out of hell to arrive at Spokane at midnight...I can drive leisurely-like tomorrow instead, y'see.

So then I called one of the Montana stores to tell them that I wouldn't be able to make it on Friday, but I'd have to do the appt on Thursday instead. And then the store owner called back, totally confused...apparently I'd spoken to her husband before, and he never let her know that I'd called, and now she seems hesitant about the whole thing, like I'm trying to pull the wool over her eyes. I mean, I did call a month and a half ago, it's conceivable that he's entirely forgotten about it, but still, argh.

I am so relieved I'm at the end of this insanity. I'm actively starting to dislike it.

So far (knock on wood) I haven't screwed up the date for a show. However, on one occasion, I was in one outdoor show that was originally scheduled for setup on Friday with open hours on Sat-Sun which the organizers decided to switch to a 3 day event with setup on Thursday. One little problem - the organizers failed to sent out notifications of the change to most of the vendors (including me). Made Friday morning on site quite entertaining.

I've also had one show change its location and I didn't get notice on that little detail. Only learned about the change by sheer chance when I bumped into a fellow merchant in a fabric store 2 days before the event.

*hugs* It sure has been one thing after another for you on this trip. At least it's nearly over.
If it makes you feel any better, I did the same sort of thing once - but with a job interview. It was on a Wednesday and I wrote it down for Thursday. And when I called and begged for a reschedule of the interview, they couldn't do it (probably because I had just proved I was an idiot and why would they want to hire me). I cried for days, it would have been a most excellent job, I was well qualified, and even had an 'in' - so I had good odds of getting it were I not a moron who can't put things on a calendar properly. I ended up stuck in my crappy job for five more years after that. So hey! it could be worse, it could negatively affect the next five years of your life! *feels stupid all over again from remembering this*

Argh! That's awful.

I've never screwed up the date for a regular weekend show like that (yet), but having eighteen trunk shows set up over a month makes it a little more difficult to track...especially since I'm the SOURCE of the dates. ha!

Wow, that is a horrible story. I would have been so angry and upset for five years, and knowing my penchant for beating myself up, I probably would have driven myself crazy about it.

I'm really starting to get excited about going home. And then I go to Phoenix Rising! whee!

Well, I'm home right now for two days, then I run off to Phoenix Rising, then I'm home for four days, then I run back off to WI for three weeks, and then...I'm home for a little while, I think. Though I might run off to Cape Cod, too.
