Okay, last set. Some of these are my faves.

I love this pic so much. This is untouched, too! No photoshop needed, can you believe it?



I had to lighten this one, though.



Since each tomb can hold so many people, sometimes they end up adding more nameplates. This one was really popular; there are plates covering the walls, as well as a Woodsmen of the World monument and various other bits and bobs.

This was pretty interesting...it's metal! The only one I saw of its kind.



Here we have a charitable society tomb, meant for orphaned boys.



There was an elevated, gated area with graves in the back.



I love this photo, too.



I adored the shady magnolia trees, and the look of this cemetery. Definitely on my top five list.

Really some terrifics shots in the cemetaries! The play of the sunlight and shadows makes them so much more pretty. I don't think I like the idea of my bones being shoved to the rear of the tomb to make way for the next body though. The whole idea kind of creeps me out. I'm thinking I'd be taking the cremation if I lived down there, just so's I could have my own little urn all to myself.

Cremation is starting to gain in popularity there, but generally, the most common method is using the summer heat to flense the flesh from the bones. Space is at a premium, hence this method of interring multiple people in one tomb.

I absolutely adore graveyards. I have pictures from everywhere I've been...actually, from a few different places in the world, too! I love an old graveyard. It's so fascinating to look at.

I couldn't help but notice all your photos are taken from the same viewpoint. Is this intentional or accidental? It just seems so repetitious...

Hmm...on the other two entries, there are a few that are from a different angle, but you're right, this set is entirely from that viewpoint.

I think most of them are taken from that angle because of the sun's angle at that time...if you look at the photos from the other cemetery, I took the little girl's statue picture from the exact opposite angle simply because of the sun. Also, sometimes I took it that way because of the line of vision (if I had taken them from a different angle, there would be power lines in the shot, for example), but now that you point it out, it does seem quite repetitious...in the future I'll try to think a little more about the viewpoint. What can I say? I like that angle, apparently! Thanks for mentioning it.

I'm so happy to be home, seriously. I've been gone so much I've started to forget what it's like just to sit down and page through the flist!

The tax windfall from OH was $40, which is nice...that's a tank of gas at the moment, so I'm certainly not going to turn up my nose!

Gorgeous pix and interesting commentary. But do the cemetaries stink, especially in the heat of summer?

Hmm. I didn't notice any smell. The bodies are bricked into the tombs during that year, and then a layer of stucco goes over that. Bugs can get in, but not people; I just don't know about smell, though. I think if they were smelly we'd have heard about it for years, though.
