Today was really productive.

On the painful side, though, I managed to a) crack a callus on the heel of my foot, which is much more painful than it looks, and b) while holding a small tray (weight about 4 oz) in both hands and standing up from a sitting position, I managed to totally screw up my back. It's killing me. How is it that I can handle 80 lb boxes with no problem, one after another, but a little quarter pound slays me? Argh! And I won't even go into detail about the callus issue. Suffice it to say that it's deep and it's making it very difficult to walk.

My back and foot conspired against my productivity, but that's okay...I triumphed in the end, because I joined the local Freecycle program, and I am GETTING RID OF THE ALBUMS.

Yes, the 200+ vinyl albums from my childhood (they're my parents) that were dropped off directly into my apartment are going to a new home tomorrow night, if I'm successful. I am going to bite the bullet and drop in my own fifty or so albums, too. I finally had to admit that I will NEVER play them again, and that I can't just wallow in the past about them. Sure, the Christmas album that we always played is very nostalgic, and sure, the Joan Baez albums remind me so much of my childhood, but I can't hang on to them. I don't even have a turntable. I have to say goodbye. Goodness, I'm almost tearing up here.

I just have no more room, and to throw them in the trash would be a horror.

If this person really picks them up tomorrow, though, I'll be very pleased indeed. They've been sitting in my living room for six months now, while I hemmed and hawed over what to do with them.

And I've managed to go through other merchandise which has been sitting here for ages (and I mean ages! Found a bag of stuff I bought two years ago, intending it for resale...but had never really sorted it). I made a few new icons. I pulled out some more clothing for Good Will. I went through the food pantry and pulled out some canned goods to donate. I pulled out the tables I'll need for this week's show. Finished all of the laundry, even the finicky stuff. 4000+ words into the Fandom Project. The dark!Snupin is brewing beautifully and will be ready to write very soon...hopefully I'll have it finished by the end of the week.

I'm so motivated, I don't even recognize myself.

You should have tried those albums on Ebay first! The hubby's friend collects old albums and has paid big bucks for them. Although, it will be a hell of a lot easier to just hand them off to someone who comes to pick them up rather than go to all the trouble of padding and packing them up and shipping them.

First I researched them on eBay. Nothing I have is rare enough or in decent enough condition, and the problem of shipping them is enough to make me throw my hands up in despair.

Then I tried selling them to the local record shops. No go. They bought only one.

So Freecycle it is. I hate to do it, but I just can't take it anymore!

I really wish I could bottle it. I actually was in motion all day long, which is unnatural for me!

So am I, actually. I don't think I can be expected to maintain this level of activity for very long!

Wooo, you have been busy! Good for you.

I still have a bunch of records of mine at my parents' house. I have a phonograph at my place, but not the space to store any records. Hmmm.

It's so hard to get rid of those old records, but at least they will be going to someone who appreciates them and will enjoy them.

I tried a lot of different things, but there was just no way to get rid of them. And I didn't want to try eBay, because it would have been such a pain; they're oddly shaped for shipping, and it's summer...I would have been so worried that they would have melted on someone's porch.

So hopefully this will work out. I'm waiting for the guy's call back.

I am incredibly depressed. Especially about the albums. I don't know if I'd be able to do it!

When my parents first dropped them off, I just wanted to cry, looking through all of them. My family is really into music, and we grew up listening to all of these, and we really cherished them.

So I had to use the Getting Sick of Them Therapy, which is to look at them every month or so, until I don't mind so much. It also helps that they're underfoot and I really don't have the room for them, but still...it's really bumming me out. Really really bumming me out.

At least the guy sounded really happy about it on the phone.

Your injuries sound painful, dear. Take care of yourself!

When my mother downsized into a condo after my father died, she donated tons of her albums to a local Alzheimer's group. (They actually had a turntable in their respite care center.) They'd play albums featuring standards from the era, and it actually seemed to temporarily improve memory for some of the folks.

Dad was a DJ in the fairly young days of radio or what Mom calls "the late, great days of payola". Record reps sent him albums by the truckloads. We still have several, but I don't know if I'll be able to part with them. *clutches Led Zeppelin IV protectively* Kudos to you for being able to do so!

Keep up the motivation! Can you send me some, as the MS from Hades that I've been bitching about in my LJ is due FRIDAY and I just got back from the beach? *wibbles*

I'm just sick about getting rid of them, but the brutally practical portion of my brain keeps saying, "You won't ever listen to them, they are cluttering up your life!"

*sigh*

I'm so glad that the guy who wants them sounds so happy about getting them. I just want them out of the living room, so I don't have to feel guilty about them any longer.

And wow, your dad was part of the payola days? That's so fascinating!

Yes, he was, though Mom mainly has lots of fancy crystal to show for it nowadays. I was a caboose child, so had "older" parents for my age though I'm old too, now.

The majority of his friends, even into his retirement years, were record company reps. I used to love to listen to them sit around and tell stories. All of them are gone now. *sniff* One day, though, I'm going to sift through the notebooks full of scribblings I used to make about their reminisces and see if I can do something with it, even if it's historical fiction.

But first *rattles chain* I have to edit other people's scribblings. *determinedly logs off LJ and opens Word doc*
