Oops, had to rec this.
Jul. 26th, 2007 01:32 pmAs usual,
trickofthedark has created an amazing art/fic. It's called Platform 9.99999999999999999999 (MASSIVE SPOILERS for DH) and it's absolutely fantastic.
Don't let the apparent simplicity of her artwork fool you. This is a harrowing read, though lighthearted, which is very much her style; what I've read by her is usually somehow...pragmatically haunting. Realistic and yet fantastic. She writes and draws the most interesting mix of these opposites I've ever seen.
The story isn't easy. It's very complex and sophisticated, and yet...simple and to the point.
First lines: Harry's train station never went away and so Dumbledore eventually boarded the train. He fell asleep when the train began to move and when he woke up, he was back where he'd started at Harry's train station, in the same seat he'd waited in to talk to Harry. The monster, still wailing under a bench a few rows back, had woken him up. Dumbledore moved to the other side of the station. "Must have been the wrong train," he said.
It's short, and says so many things about the ending of DH. It pulls together threads of morality, of sacrifice, of the past, and mistakes. I adore this story.
