Prophecy, Entry Eleven. Final thoughts.
Aug. 7th, 2007 02:24 pmAll cons have a unique flavor, it seems. While this one resembled Lumos, it still had its own look and feel, and even though I enjoyed it very much, I realize that a few things happened at this one that didn't happen at the other two.
First and foremost, I took the fewest pics ever, I think. Especially of costume characters. I caught most of them at PR, but not here. And that was because...
Secondly, I met the fewest number of new people--I spent a ton of time with old friends at this con. Julian, Margina, and Gmonkey--we were definitely like the Three Musketeers, in a way. Which is not bad! Not at all! It was simply different.
Also, I got more involved in the Snarry stuff. The new people I met were mostly Detroit-area Snarry lovers, and that's a great thing--I'm really, really hoping that it will lead to more RL get-togethers in the future. I've been neglecting the idea of a Detroit get-together because I've been so busy. But seriously, there are some great LJers/fandomers here, and I can't wait to hang out with them and get my fandom fix. heh.
The con was great. Now I have to think about cons in the future...because it is an expense, as you all know. And I should be saving for a house and stuff. But here I am, singing Bohemian Rhapsody in a hotel room instead.
I have to say that I also feel like a bit of closure is looming for me, too. DH kind of put an end to many things in my head, and I can't seem to revive them. I absolutely love writing tLS, and am committed to finishing it, and I have a few other stories, and there's Snupin Santa, but other than that--I feel like it's finished, like the story is done, and I don't need to write it any longer. No, this is not the BUHBYE FANDOM thing at all. I just think that only time will tell if I can get my HP on again.
I had a lovely time at the con, and welcome to the new friends in the journal! Sorry about the spammage, too.

Date: 2007-08-07 07:09 pm (UTC)Dallas--I'm really not certain about that. It's probably a tentative no. But Chicago is tempting...

Date: 2007-08-07 07:13 pm (UTC)I'm so glad you liked the necklace! I love how they turned out, and everyone else seems to have liked them too.
Have sent you an email...

Date: 2007-08-07 07:56 pm (UTC)If I do go, I'm going to hunt around for a cheaper hotel--we lucked out with Expedia for Prophecy, but I'm no longer so committed to staying in the con hotel for these things. I'll probably look for something that I can easily afford in case I end up going alone. And I might not even bother registering for the con--after all, I only go to these things for the social aspects, not the programming.
So, assuming I still have any interest in going by then, I'll pester you about this in January. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Date: 2007-08-07 08:04 pm (UTC)Dallas, though...ugh. I just am not a Texas-lover, sorry to say.
Form of...baguette!

Date: 2007-08-07 08:44 pm (UTC)I think there are a lot of people who feel that way. I have two WIPs to finish, and I WANT to finish them just to prove to myself that I can. After that I just don't know what I'll be doing. I do feel a deep sense of gratitude to JKR for creating HP; I never would have met so many wonderful people without it!

Date: 2007-08-08 12:15 am (UTC)And where else can I read hilarity on NASCAR trains or joke about bad-guy Kitchen Aid mixers? Not to mention read something written by someone who understood the utter awesomeness of The Wall?

Date: 2007-08-08 12:05 pm (UTC)I think several of my friends are going, though...and the time frame is maybe-better, but Chicago is starting to look like an option, too. We'll see...

Date: 2007-08-11 05:11 pm (UTC)It was so wonderful to meet you! I think I'm a bit odd in that I love hanging out with (and having discussions with!) people who don't have the same shipping or even character preferences that I do. I'm not particularly ship-centric in my fandom interactions, activities and wanderings. (A friend of mine told me I'm totally Gryffindor just by virtue of the fact that I can stand in the middle of rabid Snape fans and happily proclaim that I'm a huge Sirius Black fan. :-P) That's not to say I don't hang out with my fellow R/S shippers (in person and virtually), but I'm not exclusive at any rate.
I loved reading your reports, and your pics are fantastic! I love that you took pics of things like the art and the bulletin board - things that I'd never think to photograph myself! Hanging out with you (and Julian! Basilisk glares! Hee!) was definitely a high point of the con, and I LOVE my devil squid pin! (Thank you!! He's tentacly delicious!)

I lean toward Snupin, but I really am intrigued by nearly every fan--I love finding out the extent of their fandom mania, how they were bitten by the HP bug, etc. I love fandom so much, for its lurve and its wank, both!

This is going to sound pretty silly, but I love "capturing" the whole con experience. I'm pretty OCD, and I like writing up every detail, and then going back and reading the con reports later--it helps refresh my memory, and I'm always incredulous when other people read them, too--I almost feel like they're records for me, y'know? I always think people are annoyed by the giant spamminess, and it's absolutely wonderful when someone takes the time to read them. :)

hahaha! I'm so glad that I could help squiddify someone. ;) I thought those pins were awesome, and I love handing them out--they really get a great reaction!
