I think it's all violet_quill's fault--there was a squid war on one of her entries, and it was just so hilarious and delightful.

Plus I've always loved squid. And octopuses. So when I got into fandom, I laughed when I read some squid stories.

Then when I was on Maui, I found a plush octopus, and thought, oh, I'll bring him to Lumos! And he came in so handy--he's a terrific icebreaker.
