Not only is chapter 60 done and uploaded to all three archives, it turned out better than I had expected. Well, I didn't expect much, because it's a filler chapter, but to have accomplished something cool in it makes me pretty hap hap happy.

One more "filler/catch-up" chapter and I'll be writing the really cool stuff, the scene that begat the whole fic, the scene that everything else has been backstory for. I'm pysched. I've written this scene in my head over and over again and it will be awesome to finally get it out on paper. Er, on the computer.

Am wearing the sparkly shirt, and I must say, I've decided that this is a stay-at-home-and-veg t-shirt, especially because it is...sparkly. And comfy.

I'm going to try promoting the Fic of Doom today, seeing as it's the sixtieth chapter and I've reached 100,000 words. I'll put my first announcements of it ever on two of the mailing lists I frequent as soon as this chapter is validated at Sycophant Hex, because I have a feeling that most of the people on the list will want to read it there.

It's grey and rainy, just how I like it.

Welcome back, [livejournal.com profile] bob_the_mighty. The hive was malodorous without you. And Lou forgot half of the words to the Great Hive Oath so we made him run around the building three times without his freklesprees on. It was funny until he turned on the splatenvore and got us all soaked with nimbspawn.

Another rec: [livejournal.com profile] realreview is up and running, and this is where you can post excerpts of your work for a real review...they promise you'll Get brutally honest feedback for your writing, and be prepared to dish out what you take! Sounds like it could be a source of much drama. Heh. If I had any short pieces to submit, I'd do so, but, having written little except the bloated Sarahfic and a drabble, I hardly think I qualify.

To do list:
Polish long entry about fanfic writing, and post and send link to [livejournal.com profile] daily_snitch
Post interactive creative question entry on Friday, timed so that most people see it, I hope. I thought about Wednesday. Actually I have no idea which day would be best; I just want it to hit at a point where the most people will play. Cuz it could be fun.
Write up challenge thing.
Start Snape Reference entry with many, many links to many, many references that I have bookmarked.
Start chapter 61.

Yea!!!! Chapter 60 done! (blows noise makers and distributes party hats) I'm super pleased for you! Know how hard you worked...yeah fillers are the hardest. But you go with your bad self!

Heh, hopefully drama in [livejournal.com profile] realreview will be at a minimum. [livejournal.com profile] eryn_ and I are determined to make sure that it stays polite. Even when a piece warrants harsh criticism, there is no excuse for being rude or hurtful so hopefully we won't have any problems.

It really is an interesting concept, because sometimes you wonder if people who are reviewing are trying to hold back so they won't hurt your feelings.

Is anonymous commenting allowed?

It depends on if the original poster sets the "allow anonymous comments" option. Technically the community only lets you say whether only members can post, but doesn't regulate comments.

So if an author was concerned about anonymous flames they could disable anon comments on their post.

Once we have enough people participating (and able to be active mods) we're planning to switch to a moderated model where anything nasty would not be approved.

Currently yes anonymous comments were allowed, right up until [livejournal.com profile] shagsthedustmop asked me. But that was never the intention, I just had some trouble digging up where that was set. (The community options didn't have anything about comments.)

The plan is to wait for a decent density of active members and to switch the community to some sort of "moderated" either just membership or post-by-post. And I said early on that I'd delete any flames.

I haven't seen anything offensive and I have seen and watched every single comment. And it looks like people aren't pulling their punches even though they're being polite about it. No one will post anything if it's a bitter feud, but there won't be any point if it's always nice, and there is a difference between a measure of tact and outright lying to people.

That sounds wonderful. A nice big dollop of honesty is just what a lot of authors need. When all of the comments you receive are praise it's nice, but constructive criticism should be what every writer is looking for.

I kept seeing these really hideous stories get "squeee"-ed over and decent stuff get ignored. I finally asked and someone said that they had to encourage the bad writers and good writing (like stuff that had spaces between every word) was too intimidating to review.

It was like the Special Olympics where everybody wins, but they strip the medals from the people who came in first because they must have been over qualified.

Obviously that was completely unfair.

Oh, well done! I love finishing off a chapter and getting it posted, especially if it's been a tough one to write! Am struggling with a difficult and crucial chapter that is long overdue - got some of it done at work yesterday as there was absolutely nothing to do for once - spent the whole day writing fic and reading my book! Best workday I've had in ages!

Oh, now that's nice...I would love to spend the day at work immersed in fic! :)

I was so relieved to get this particular chapter out...it really took an inordinate amount of time, and I wasn't motivated. That it turned out better than I expected was so nice.

Glad you got some done...here's hoping the words flow for you!

Meant to say, I think your sparkly t-shirt sounds great! I tend to be a bit boring and buy black black black all the time but occasionally I splash out on something out of the ordinary! Of course I'm now stuck in a limited pregnancy wardrobe for a while, and just hoping I will fit back into my other clothes afterwards!
