In the last four out of five years, I've owed a bundle at tax time. Imagine owing 15% of your yearly income on April 15th, and imagine that you haven't been able to save up 15% of your yearly income and so then you have to pay it in an installment plan which makes it very difficult to pay the next 15%, and the cycle repeats itself.

Well, the good news is that I spent a lot of money last year (long trip o' doom helped) and, as a consequence, I don't owe taxes this year. I won't have to pay--or I might even get a tiny, tiny refund.

I cannot tell you how happy this makes me. I mean, I was kind of predicting it, but still, I am overwhelmingly relieved. I want to buy a house at the end of the year, and this is one of the better pieces of news.

*does the tax dance of joy (a very rare dance, let me tell you!)*

I'll be paying less than last year (with the computer equipment I bought) but I'll still end up paying.

But in 2008 I have very little freelance and will have almost all W2s so I expect better news next year...

Hopefully I'll do well in the coming years, now that I'll be in a house. *crosses fingers*

I can't believe I'm not paying! I'm still astonished.

Yay for deductible expenses!

I used to work in a public accounting firm and I loved telling people who were expecting to pay tax that they might get a small refund. One guy got something like $1.36 back and he was so happy.

Yes, exactly!! The tax guy was like, "Oh, you might get a refund" but I cared not a whit. All I care about is not having to pay. *crosses fingers*

Right on, love! Yay!

I'm supposed to get back a nice little chunk of change. Woot!!! Which is a crapload of cash for me...because I'm basically poor. I wouldn't get this at all if it weren't for the Coconut. I mean, you should have a kid or two - enormous tax break! ~g~

Last year, I didn't even make enough money to file taxes. We lived with my dad the majority of that year anyway, so my dad claimed both the Coconut and me. So this year, it's all good. I barely made enough to file - and all of that money is going to yearly car insurance and my trip to Portus (you really should go to that. Most of us going in our group - which consists of me, [livejournal.com profile] ladymontgomery, [livejournal.com profile] scatteredlogic, [livejournal.com profile] knight0fswords, [livejournal.com profile] whitemunin, [livejournal.com profile] yanniconny and her husband and [livejournal.com profile] dream_labyrinth - those are the kids staying in our two rooms. We're meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] cavalaxis, [livejournal.com profile] shiv5668, [livejournal.com profile] quietselkie, [livejournal.com profile] ozratbag2 and [livejournal.com profile] elfgirl. The last I don't know, but we were all assured she's not a serial killer. As I was saying, most of us aren't even signed up for the conference...we are just going to hang out with each other). Oh, and I promised Coconut a trip to Chuck E Cheese when the tax $ arrives. Because that place is expensive!

Read my Desmond!Smut!Fic! yet? Smutty chapter should be up at the end of today! ::crosses fingers::

Thank goodness for your refund--that ROCKS!

And I'm already crying about Portus, and now I feel even worse. I would love to hang out with the awesome crowd! wah!

I just can't deal with that right now--I have too many other things going on, and I had to choose only one con. *sniffle*

Haven't gotten to your smut!fic yet--but I will! Definitely! I'm still catching up. *huggles*

Woo! I got a bigger refund this year, as I didn't have two jobs.

My sister is in a similar boat to yours. She has a regular full-time job, then is an independent contractor for a survey company. She usually has to pay something, and it's such a struggle! I know it's worse for you.

Celebration time! :D

I am in such a tippy boat--it's such an incredible relief to not have to deal with the installment payments. They were big, and they really messed me up last year! I'm so looking forward to not putting out all of that money again this year.

Though by next year, I'll have another big bill, I can see this already--I won't have anywhere near the deductions I had this year. boo hoo!

Hooray! That is excellent news! :D I couldn't imagine owing so much on my taxes... wow. I'm so glad you don't have to pay this year, though...

Seriously, it really set me back! It was like paying another car payment and a half every month. Like paying half my rent. It was pretty rough.

I'm still dancing! hee!

I'm so totally geeked about this! It couldn't come at a better time--this puts me in a much better position to get a house this winter.
