My cell phone just rang. I picked it up and said "Hello?"

A guy on the other end said in a very cranky voice..."What're you doin'?!" in the tone you generally reserve for people who are supposed to be meeting you but are very very late.

"Uh..."

Pause. "Is this Wendy?"

"No."

"Oh, sorry, I have the wrong number."

Poor Wendy. She's probably online too.

I hate it when that happens. Also when you get strange answerphone messages that are so obviously not meant for you! A couple of months ago I got a message from someone who obviously thought they were ringing a doctor's surgery and who asked me to call round ASAP. Luckily they had left a number so I called back to explain the mistake. It took me about 20 minutes to make the woman understand what had happened and to get her off the phone! And when I had just met and got together with my now hubby, there was some woman who kept phoning and leaving strange messages for him - he swore he didn't know who it was, and luckily I believed him! We never found out the identity of this strange person - at first I thought it was one of his friends playing a joke, or maybe a neighbour from one of the flats in our block who had somehow got hold of his phone number. One of life's little unsolved mysteries!

One of life's little unsolved mysteries!

Once someone left a wrapped gift on the porch of my parents' house. It was a reindeer in a little cute dress, all in a pretty box and everything. In July. We still, to this day, have no idea who left it there.

A reindeer in July?? Late Christmas present, perhaps!! Or early Christmas present from someone who is much too organised! Something like that happened to my dad a week or two ago - someone put a copy of the book 'The curious incident of the dog in the night-time' through his letterbox. He has no idea who it was either, as his own copy of the book was sitting at home on the shelves! Obviously someone who got confused about who lent what to whom! And some poor person will never get their copy of the book back!
