I'm heading out of town for a show that takes place on Sunday, and I'm trying to get the last minute things packed. I'm scrambled and I think I'm just not running on all cylinders, most likely because of the glasses.

Oh yeah--I went to the optometrist again, because they wanted to measure my lenses again. So now the new glasses won't be in until next week. FORTUNATELY!! they seem to have figured out the issue, which was the "baseline curve," so I have my fingers massively crossed that this works.

Still, it means I have to do this trip with the lens of doom, which is not fun. I'm still fighting headaches every single day and I'm having trouble getting to sleep (well, more trouble). And I haven't worked on my experimentation stuff because it is image-heavy and there will be PS work for it and I just don't want to squint at the screen any more than I already am.

In other news, I went shopping yesterday. I needed to buy a birthday gift for my nephew. I decided to also take my Lane Bryant coupon and check out their new merchandise. Well, the stuff pictured in their brochure must not have hit the store yet, and I wandered around and just went meh. I spent $100 on a few tops that were okay, and a very lightweight sweater-wrap thing, and a pair of jeans that looked nice. The jeans were buy one get one half off, but I could not find a single other pair to buy. (The pair I bought? Last one in my size, or I would have bought two.) All of the rest of the jeans were: a) distressed (ie, holes--look, I understand it's a fashionable thing right now, but they wear out more quickly and I don't like the ventilation), b) studded with these ridiculous plastic studs meant to look like old-skool punk square chrome studs, c) rhinestoned on the back pockets (the better to ruin your upholstery), d) zippered on the pockets with industrial brass zippers (again, goodbye, upholstery), e) part of their Right Fit line (don't get me started), or f) slim fit, which I can barely get over my size twelve feet, seriously.

I was hoping for a new cute hoodie, but the hoodies were either super-plain and in their Seasonal Colors (dark aqua-teal, dark fuchsia, sweatshirt grey, white, black), or short sleeved. Look, short-sleeve hoodies are useless to me. No thanks.

Then I had to actually go into the mall to buy the video games because the store in the strip mall had closed. While I was there, I checked out Torrid, and ended up spending waaaaaay too much, but I went home with three absolutely fabulous pairs of jeans. Like, mega-fabulous. Silver, Cavarricci, and Torrid brand. They're delicious. The Silver pair feels like I've owned them for years already. I also bought an awesome black sweater. So that was very nice. I don't mind paying more for jeans because I get so much use out of them.

See you all on Sunday night. I'll miss you!

What happened to your older pair of glasses? :(

The whole problem from the start was that I only bought lenses, not new frames, because I love these frames and wanted to keep them. So when they got the new lenses in, they tossed the old lenses, and then within a day or two I knew something very wrong was happening.

But by then the old lenses were history. Which is why this has been such trouble! :(

And the pair before this is so old that I think it would have been impossible to use them, sadly enough.

I tried that once...trying to keep old, beloved frames. It's best to just fine new frames (and if you really like them, immediately buy 1 or 2 extra empty frames). Sadly, the eyeglass frames that I always find are "old stock" and I can never buy any extra frames.

The current pair of eyeglasses that I am wearing are 35-year-old frames that I bought off a "vintage" eyeglass frame web site that specializes in "old stock" and used frames. I really like these frames and I'm sad I can't buy any more, but I was lucky to find these! The styles of frames that I like are not "popular" right now (i.e., the manufacturers have decided that frames with large lens socket aren't trendy right now). :P

They're cute D&G frames, and they really look nice, and I thought it would be cool to keep them for one more cycle--I usually get new glasses every two years, so I thought it would work really well to wear them for four years instead of two. Now I'm regretting it.

Yeah, you're right about the style--everything is rectangular and broad, thank goodness, which is what looks best on my face, actually. (I have a big head, lol! Those little micro-frames from eight years ago were horrible.) I probably could have found some new ones that were just as nice but I like these so much...

Distressed jeans are such a young look. You'd think stores would have a couple of pair in stock that work for the over 30 crowd. Don't even get me started on buying a pair of maternity jeans that aren't all faded or holey! Unless you're willing to plop down $50 for some jeans you'll wear less than a year you're pretty much out of luck!

I really just wanted to buy a couple of pairs of nice, dark straight leg jeans--classic stuff--to replace a couple pairs that are starting to look like floods. And everything was so strangely decorated or holey. ugh!

Thank goodness for Torrid, though boy, they are expensive. :(

I've heard great things about Torrid but whenever I go in it seems like there's nothing but rockabilly dresses and puffy-paint neon sweatshirts. Will try again with an eye to jeans!

96% of the store is unsuitable, honestly, for me. A lot of the hot pink stuff and the stripe stuff--just can't wear it. But the jeans are great! Especially for my big-butt, big-hip shape. ;)

The show was awful, and I'm glad to be home. At least I had nice neighbors. ;)

Thank you so much! Most of it was very nice indeed. The show, sadly, was really slow. :(

Short-sleeved hoodies might have a place in some wardrobes, but not mine. They don't really work for me at all. I'm cold-blooded and need the sleeves, lol!!

The trip was safe--thank you so much!! *hugs in return*

I am with you on the ridiculously decorated jeans, but I have to stand up for the short-sleeved hoodie. In the right climate, such as where I live, it is a useful garment: ideal for days that are both warm and rainy, and, with the addition of a long-sleeved tee underneath, it gives a double layer of warmth on colder days. I get a lot of wear out of mine. :-)

Oh yeah, they do work for a lot of people--but not me. And I get sad when my only choices are a) long sleeve, incredibly plain hoodies in colors that don't really match much of my wardrobe, or b) funky awesome (but short sleeved) hoodies that would match anything. Lose-lose, in my case.

YAY for identifying the problem with your new lenses. I'm sorry you have to wait until next week to get them, but YAY.

Bleurgh to distressed jeans. Clothing wears out fast enough without being helped along by pre-made holes. Besides, I wore distressed and holed jeans when I was 13. Not so much into that style 18 years later.

What frustrates me about shopping for plus-sized clothes around here is that I seem to only ever find extremes: either very young (aimed at the college crowd) or sixty-and-up matronly. I don't really follow fashion and my personal style is pretty damned varied--you'd think this would make clothing shopping easier, not more difficult, but difficult it is.

Also, I'm very short. Very very short. And most of the clothing shops around here seem to assume that the wide = tall.

I'm just about to pop over there and have the lens changed. SQUEE!!

Yep. Fine when I'm 13, not so fine now. I don't really like the look any longer, either. :(

YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES. Why is it that so much of it is so tent-like and shapeless? And designed for those crowds?

Though I have to say that Torrid (which is definitely skewed toward the teen/young adult crowd) is a least a teensy bit helpful, because there's a fraction of their stuff that is wearable for me.

Also, I'm very short. Very very short. And most of the clothing shops around here seem to assume that the wide = tall.

Yeah, that's a weird conundrum, too! I am tall, so that isn't an issue, but I've put on 22s before and thought, boy, good thing I'm tall. *hugs*
