Ah, the joys of the last minute
Apr. 21st, 2010 01:31 pmI'm heading out of town for a show that takes place on Sunday, and I'm trying to get the last minute things packed. I'm scrambled and I think I'm just not running on all cylinders, most likely because of the glasses.
Oh yeah--I went to the optometrist again, because they wanted to measure my lenses again. So now the new glasses won't be in until next week. FORTUNATELY!! they seem to have figured out the issue, which was the "baseline curve," so I have my fingers massively crossed that this works.
Still, it means I have to do this trip with the lens of doom, which is not fun. I'm still fighting headaches every single day and I'm having trouble getting to sleep (well, more trouble). And I haven't worked on my experimentation stuff because it is image-heavy and there will be PS work for it and I just don't want to squint at the screen any more than I already am.
In other news, I went shopping yesterday. I needed to buy a birthday gift for my nephew. I decided to also take my Lane Bryant coupon and check out their new merchandise. Well, the stuff pictured in their brochure must not have hit the store yet, and I wandered around and just went meh. I spent $100 on a few tops that were okay, and a very lightweight sweater-wrap thing, and a pair of jeans that looked nice. The jeans were buy one get one half off, but I could not find a single other pair to buy. (The pair I bought? Last one in my size, or I would have bought two.) All of the rest of the jeans were: a) distressed (ie, holes--look, I understand it's a fashionable thing right now, but they wear out more quickly and I don't like the ventilation), b) studded with these ridiculous plastic studs meant to look like old-skool punk square chrome studs, c) rhinestoned on the back pockets (the better to ruin your upholstery), d) zippered on the pockets with industrial brass zippers (again, goodbye, upholstery), e) part of their Right Fit line (don't get me started), or f) slim fit, which I can barely get over my size twelve feet, seriously.
I was hoping for a new cute hoodie, but the hoodies were either super-plain and in their Seasonal Colors (dark aqua-teal, dark fuchsia, sweatshirt grey, white, black), or short sleeved. Look, short-sleeve hoodies are useless to me. No thanks.
Then I had to actually go into the mall to buy the video games because the store in the strip mall had closed. While I was there, I checked out Torrid, and ended up spending waaaaaay too much, but I went home with three absolutely fabulous pairs of jeans. Like, mega-fabulous. Silver, Cavarricci, and Torrid brand. They're delicious. The Silver pair feels like I've owned them for years already. I also bought an awesome black sweater. So that was very nice. I don't mind paying more for jeans because I get so much use out of them.
See you all on Sunday night. I'll miss you!

Date: 2010-04-21 05:52 pm (UTC)But by then the old lenses were history. Which is why this has been such trouble! :(
And the pair before this is so old that I think it would have been impossible to use them, sadly enough.

Date: 2010-04-21 06:23 pm (UTC)The current pair of eyeglasses that I am wearing are 35-year-old frames that I bought off a "vintage" eyeglass frame web site that specializes in "old stock" and used frames. I really like these frames and I'm sad I can't buy any more, but I was lucky to find these! The styles of frames that I like are not "popular" right now (i.e., the manufacturers have decided that frames with large lens socket aren't trendy right now). :P

Date: 2010-04-21 06:40 pm (UTC)Yeah, you're right about the style--everything is rectangular and broad, thank goodness, which is what looks best on my face, actually. (I have a big head, lol! Those little micro-frames from eight years ago were horrible.) I probably could have found some new ones that were just as nice but I like these so much...

Date: 2010-04-25 05:19 pm (UTC)Bleurgh to distressed jeans. Clothing wears out fast enough without being helped along by pre-made holes. Besides, I wore distressed and holed jeans when I was 13. Not so much into that style 18 years later.
What frustrates me about shopping for plus-sized clothes around here is that I seem to only ever find extremes: either very young (aimed at the college crowd) or sixty-and-up matronly. I don't really follow fashion and my personal style is pretty damned varied--you'd think this would make clothing shopping easier, not more difficult, but difficult it is.
Also, I'm very short. Very very short. And most of the clothing shops around here seem to assume that the wide = tall.

Yep. Fine when I'm 13, not so fine now. I don't really like the look any longer, either. :(

YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES. Why is it that so much of it is so tent-like and shapeless? And designed for those crowds?
Though I have to say that Torrid (which is definitely skewed toward the teen/young adult crowd) is a least a teensy bit helpful, because there's a fraction of their stuff that is wearable for me.
Also, I'm very short. Very very short. And most of the clothing shops around here seem to assume that the wide = tall.
Yeah, that's a weird conundrum, too! I am tall, so that isn't an issue, but I've put on 22s before and thought, boy, good thing I'm tall. *hugs*
