During the middle of the night, I dreamt that I was a guy who worked for a company that manufactured stickers. It was a very long dream that covered many years, and I basically was not very nice in my climb upwards within the corporation, to the point where when I was older and had some sort of medical problem, none of them had any sort of sympathy for me, and I got my comeuppance in a weird way.

Anyway, that's not the point. The point is, when I woke up, I lay there in bed and thought, omg, this is the best story ever. I started imagining how I'd put it together, and I'd put in all of the crazy coworkers I've known over the years, and how I've had experience in a company that was once growing exponentially and was later dwindling, and I was so excited that I even began picking out a name and thinking about the cover. I even thought about how I'd need to research LA and California to write it, but I still felt like it was quite doable because it was corporation based and most of the action would take in the office. I even thought I could start writing it today, I was so excited. I had that New Story Buzz.

Then I fell back asleep.

This morning, of course, I started giggling, because there's not even a plot and I doubt that I could cobble together anything entertaining out of the premise. Seriously.

While half-asleep, though, it seemed like it was a masterpiece. Crazy brain, how I love you.

Oh, you are so not alone. I've had this happen, and so many times, even if I managed to write down notes, turned out to be dreck in the harsh light of day. *cries* Ah, well.

omg, there was one time where I wrote down notes and then in the morning they made no sense at all. ahahaha! Sad, huh?

Well, at least we're having delusions of grandeur in our sleep instead of in our waking hours, which would undoubtedly lead to heaps more embarrassment. :-D

I know what you mean, that's happened to me a few times, too. Or someone cracks a joke I find so hilarious I wake myself up laughing, thinking I must remember this so I can share it with others later. Only in the middle of the day when the brain's all sobered up, it's not even a bad joke, it's completely incomprehensible. Or I come to some great insight that 6 hours later makes me go "bzuh?"

It's just that in the state of sleep or half-sleep, these "flashes of genius" seem so real that I sometimes wonder if it's actually so stupid, nonsensical and crazy as it seems in the wide-awake state, or if our wide-awake brains just don't understand our "dream-brilliance", because they lack something the sleeping brain has? Like, maybe other subconscious minds really would have agreed with yours that that story was a masterpiece, even though it doesn't make sense to any wide-awake brain? :-)

My half-awake brain was so completely convinced of the marvel of this story that it actually made me start planning when I could start writing it. Seriously. And for me? That's a drastic step. I usually let stories steep for a while before I start to write them, but this thing seemed so perfect and fantastic that I was actually brushing aside research concerns and everything.

And I definitely think it was "dream-brilliance," lol! There was really no point to it at all, and the omg everyone has abandoned me moment at the end wouldn't really be that great a conclusion. I still am giggling at my brain for thinking this was such a wonder.

It would be interesting to see what other subconscious minds would think of it. I'm totally intrigued with that thought! ;)

I love your brain. <3 I've had that happen to me so many times, too. Plus, I used to wake up all the time in the middle of the night with ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT IDEAS, not write them down because oh, I'll remember... and have nada in the morning. Either that, or the notes I wrote make absolutely no sense.

I wonder if those lost ideas really were brilliant, or just another case of my half-asleep brain thinking itself more clever than it is. =D

hahaha!! My brain loves yours, too. <3

Usually I write down stuff that occurs to me in the beginning of the night--like, when I've just gotten in bed. After that, it's pretty much useless, unless it's a crazy dream. I tried a few times and ended up with absolutely crazy notes that made no sense whatsoever, so I don't generally do it any longer.

It's just so funny that this story slid right under the radar, y'know? I was all for rearranging my whole schedule. hee!

And who knows about those half-asleep brains? Maybe they ARE brilliant, and we're the ones who are crazy. hahaha!
