Received a lovely review today at FictionAlley from Roki, one of the regular reviewers of tLS...forgive me while I glow...
this is so amazingly written. the words are shaped beautifully to fit the mood of the story -- it seems that the words are merely props and the spirit or whatever of the story makes it shine so astoundingly. i can only wish to write as well as you, as i've probably said this before. i never read such a well detailed story, fic or novel, before. if you aren't already, you should write professionally. i'd be the first in line to read your future novel.
So sweet.
I'd better go look at some crazy cartoons of cats floating on heart-shaped balloons or my head won't fit in the computer room any longer.

Severus finds himself up to his neck in intrigue, bothersome students, and two new teachers that complicate his already complex double life.
The Last Sanguimagus is a sixth year fic with a particular emphasis on Snape and an original character, a new instructor at Hogwarts.

I'm not certain how familiar you are with fandom cliches, but if you are familiar, then I will say she does not come to Hogwarts to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts.
The story is told through three points of view: Harry's, the Original Female Character's, and Severus's. It is a Work in Progress, it is 110,000+ words long at this point, and it is nearing its conclusion. If you are interested in a long Snape!fic with angst and romance, this qualifies.
Thanks!
Date: 2005-03-22 03:25 pm (UTC)I'm fairly familiar with the fanfic terminology, but not with fandom cliches. I gather from reading your essay that OFC (or OMC, if you're writing slash) characters that come to teach DADA (I personally hate that abbreviation) are often Mary/Marty Sue and so this should be avoided. I'd heard it was Muggle Studies teachers. Perhaps it's both.
I don't usually read WIPs, due to having been screwed so many times by writers who don't finish what they've started. It looks as though you are not one of these, and so I'll go to that. I don't know what 110,000 words comes to in pages. Definitely not a one-shot read, though.
I'm probably the least romantic person on the face of the planet, but I'll read it if it's well done. The occasional short bit of sap is allright, but I don't want to get diabetes from overly-sweet stories. I so belong in the Snape camp, it's not even funny.
I'll likely let you know what I think of the story. I tend to review good things. Something that long, I wouldn't stick with it if it wasn't good. Why do I think that's not going to be a problem with you?
Re: Thanks!
Date: 2005-03-22 11:46 pm (UTC)Usually it's one or the other. Or the Sue has to come to Hogwarts to hide from Voldemort.

Well, so far, this is the least romantic romance on the face of the planet, so I don't think it'll be a problem for you in the sap department.
Let me know if you check it out...
