Okay, state of the valis

So. I have installed Windows XP (er, reinstalled) on the old computer. I've downloaded and installed over 80 updates (no, seriously) and yet I cannot get it to install service pack 2. SP1 is already on the installation disk, but SP2 just will not install. It won't even download, which is even freakier. It brings up the DL dialogue window, and then it just sits there and hangs, and eventually claims failure.

I'm trying to download the big SP2 version for XP NT. It's claiming it will take five hours, though. grah.

Amazingly enough, I am so keeping up with Etsy and eBay. I've been relisting like mad and I'm actually not cringing when I go to relist--because holy cow, everything runs so smoothly and quickly. Even with 60 pic files open in PS Elements. Even with all of the crap running, I am barely using 2% of the CPU. The scanner only kicks it up to 18% during scan; it used to kick it to 100% with Big Blue. I'm loving the efficiency. A lot of the little eccentricities of Big Blue are not present on this computer, especially the tremendously annoying back-to-the-scan-window thing. (Every time I would hit preview and then change windows, it would pull me back after about 4 seconds to look at the preview window. I could not figure out how to turn it off. grah.)

Turns out Big Blue is pretty delighted to be rid of all that stuff, btw. I haven't seen it run this fast in ages. It boots so quickly now and the internet comes up fast. Maybe I should have restaged it ages ago. Too late now. Besides, I'm going crazy with joy over the new efficiency of the new computer.

I've taken a bunch of scale photos for the website, and they're already edited and uploaded. Now I just need to take a few pics of the stragglers, and I'll be done with the product lineup. Then I'll have to add the scale pics to the existing product pages, and then I'll have to rewrite all of the text stuff. I'm getting closer. At this rate, I'll be able to launch it at the end of Sept/early Oct.

With the new computer, I added a wireless card just for the hell of it. Turns out that the wireless signal is pretty low where my desk is (there's an unsecured network nearby), but even on a single bar that blacks out intermittently, it is still FASTER than my aircard. lol.

What bliss to have a fast computer! My dinosaur freezes up and is all going up to 100% Usage!Still it has served me faithfully for 7 years of tough use and it was bargain own make one from a discount firm. Hope you soon get WIndows sorted out.

My old one is so much happier now that there's almost nothing on it! I forgot how fast it was in the beginning, before it got bogged down with all the stuff I like to use. heh.

I feel sorry for you for all the 'puter installations! I go absolutely crazy when I have to do those, especially if something refuses to load, or download, or install... I hope the new one is so worth it! :-)

The new one is awesome. I love it so much!! And hopefully the old one will be awesome, too, when it's all done. Already it's faster and better than it was, just because I've removed so much stuff from it. Thanks!!
