A night of a thousand whines
Oct. 16th, 2010 06:32 amSo. I had a dreadful, emotionally overwhelming evening last night, which I will not go into.
But I did manage to actually get in bed by 11, which meant 6 hours of sleep, which would not have been bad. Only as soon as I lay down, my digestive system began to howl, and then I had to spend an hour in the bathroom, and I was still not happy when I got in bed. I think I slept about three hours, mostly in 30 minute increments punctuated by coughing fits.
And now, I'm leaving for a show. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive one way. It's a seven hour show, with one hour setup (maybe 1 1/2 if I get there with no slowdown), and I'm just still so sick and miserable. Driving early in the morning for long periods is always a recipe for disaster for me. I am not looking forward to this at all. I am leaving at 6:30 AM and I will be back around 8 PM. grah.
In fact, if it weren't for the fact that I would give up my booth fee, miss out on selling (when we really could use the $), and miss out on handing out business cards for my new website, I would have just called and cancelled. Which I have never, ever done before. But I'm that miserable.
The sad thing is, my coughing will also scare people away, which might mean it'll be a bad show. I don't know. Part of me is just astonished that, yet again, I manage to get so sick right in the middle of doing the only three shows I have to do for months. What timing! Especially since I haven't been sick for a year and a half.
