...but I'm getting better. I think.

The antibiotics have run out, and I'm still coughing and my neck's still sore. I called in for tomorrow and will be staying home.

I've put the time to good use, thankfully. I did a bunch of stuff, like inventorying my backstock.

Plus, I've started a huge, very ambitious project to completely replace all of my scans for eBay with photos. I tried it out today. I think they're a little too light, but for a first batch I'm rather pleased. I'm also redoing all of the listings, putting them into bullet point formats. I think they're easier to scan and more attractive.

I have not regained the impetus to write. Instead, I've been looping, rereading old stuff.

OH! Do any of you use the LJ scrapbook thingy for pics? And Semagic? I do. My old process was always: upload the pics using the scrapbook upload page (which takes some time, and often hangs on me), and then pick all of them and use the scrapbook post-to-journal function. I C&P the resulting HTML code into Semagic. And then I go through and edit out all of the weird stuff they add.

Well, I discovered something recently. If you copy images from a folder on your hard drive, then you can drag and drop them into a Semagic entry. It's pretty awesome, especially if you only want to do a quick entry. Semagic then uploads the pics to Scrapbook for you, and posts them in your entry! It's terrific. You can specify which gallery.

Listen, if you do screencap commentaries or other things involving lots of pics in a single entry, this could be a HUGE timesaver. It's so much easier to stick this stuff into the entry and let Semagic download--it's so much faster than the upload feature on Scrapbook. After you upload the pics, it turns the links into the required HTML links to the now-uploaded Scrapbook files.

However, I'm running up against an issue or two, and if any of you have an answer, it would be awesome. For entries with a pic or two, it's not much of a big deal, but when I'm doing screencap entries (100+ images in a post) or even pond pic entries I'd love to figure this feature out better so I can do things more efficiently.

First, I can only get to the upload menu if I keep the option checked for "Upload images after drop." I can't figure out the shortcut. The "insert image" shortcut doesn't work, even if you highlight the C&Ped image files.

Second, once the links switch, they become the Scrapbook links, and then the helpful title vanishes and they turn into nothing but code. No alt image title, you see. So without hitting preview, I can't see what the images are (I usually work in HTML mode). I was hoping that there would be a way to get to the upload menu (nope, see #1) so I could keep them with the titles so it'd be easier for me to write up the text. Or even letting Semagic upload them, and then somehow "refreshing" them after I've annotated them so the alt titles are in place. Nope, can't figure that out, either.

Third, there are only a few size options. 1020 pixels with gallery link, 640 pixels with gallery link, and 320 pixels with gallery link, or original. I usually size things to a certain size (usually 500 pixels), and then I have thumbnails for the alternate images. Unfortunately, with this system I can't make thumbnails, and if I keep things at their original size, I can't get the gallery link option to work. There is a ticky box but it doesn't seem to work. I could just use Semagic to upload everything and then use the Post-to-journal function, but if I could get the options to work it would be awesome. I mean, I'll take the sizes if I have to, but the lack of thumbnail is kind of frustrating.

If anyone has used this function and can offer any help I'd appreciate it!

Scrapbook sucks. At one point I downloaded an XP client which uploaded everything I picked to my Scrapbook account, which was at least one time-saver, but then the client stopped working (despite numerous reinstalls) and then I had to upload stuff through the upload page. Which does not allow you to pick multiple files at the same time, so you have to click on them one at a time and then hope that they actually upload. grah!

Anyway, I have still been using Scrapbook because I like having everything here on LJ. I really wish they'd redo the feature and make it work efficiently.

I had thought it would be better to have everything in one place but nothing could make me use it again...

It is a behemoth, definitely, and it makes me grind my teeth, but I just have been too lazy to find a substitute. lol.

Photobucket isn't the best but it suits my needs and doesn't piss me off that much. So I'll stick with it. I generally take the path of least resistance.
