A tape is stuck in my VCR!

I think one of the mechanisms that "pops" the tape out has finally given up.

It makes me sad. The VCR was a gift from an ex-fiancée. It's been part of my life for ten years. It is a great VCR. Or...it was a great VCR.

I'm so bummed. I love my sweet VCR...it has been a nice companion for ten years. It is still in terrific shape, excepting the part about the tape imprisoned within.

Just had to RAWR there. Thanks for listening.

(plays funeral dirge to vcr)

I understand...my vcr has been with me since I first went to universtity...we're talking the first degree...back in 1994. Yup...and I still have it! Lived through many a failed romance, my son attempting to mail things in it, and all sorts of moves where it was banged around. Soon departing to my new home in May.

I think I will have heartfailure when it goes...they really don't make them like they used to.

BTW: What tape was it?

Exactly! *sigh* This was such a great VCR, and now I'll have to buy the $10 budget econ-o-VCR...

The tape had an episode of House on it, and I was going to record the new episode of House over it. Thank goodness it wasn't the Black Swan...I was watching that a couple days ago and I would have been really upset. Not available on DVD, after all.

Couldn't you...erm...open the flappy bit and kind of gently 'encourage' the tape out with something, maybe a fish slice/large wooden spoon thingy? (i'm not so hot on ktichen implements, heh.)

It's a risky business I know, but my VCR has had several stuck-tape related incidents, and by poking around and shaking it a bit I've not had to let it go to that great corner-of-the-living-room in the sky yet.

This is the first time it's ever not released a tape. I've tried just about everything I can try, and I think that it is a mechanical failure. It usually makes two noises when it spits out a tape; a clack as it releases the protective plastic shield on the tape, and a whir as it brings the tape up. It is not making the clack noise any longer, and I fear that the releasing mechanism has worn out.

I'll be playing with it more tonight to try to figure it out, but I think it might be hopeless.

Will it still play the stuck tape? Have you tried play then eject in rapid succession? What am I saying? Of course you have!

I'm inclined to go along with the person who suggested the sticking-something-in-and-wiggling method.Or how about the gravity method? Tip it upside down and give it an encouraging shake?

I kept my old VCR for ages after it finally died. Why? It had been a constant back in the days of chaos. Sad, eh?
