So I had made plans to meet
deepforestowl. Now we've made plans to meet before, and something always happens to spoil it, so I was a little afraid that these plans would be disrupted again.
So she was going to stop at the apartment on the way home from another friend's house. I had originally scheduled myself to work on that day, but I took it off so that I'd have the entire day free.
Yesterday at work they had a crisis, and asked me to come in today. I said I could come in for a few hours, because I was thinking that owl wouldn't be here until the early afternoon. I was really surprised that they asked me to come in; honestly, they ask me to come in on my day off about once every year or two. It's a really uncommon thing.
Well, we didn't email each other much over the weekend, and I was getting a little paranoid. So then I thought, well, I'll just go into work and leave a new message on my cell phone that tells her to call my work number, because I can't have my cell phone on at work. I thought, she'll just call me when she gets close, and I'll drive home (forty-five minutes) and meet her there.
My phone never rang at work, so I punched out at 11:50 and turned on my cell phone in the parking lot. There is a message from her, telling me that she's already there, and that she doesn't have a cell phone and can't make another call, and she'll wait til 12:30.
So I drive home like a crazy person, all the while thinking, it would suck if she left just before I get there, and I won't know, because she'll probably drive a different route.
So I pull into the apartment complex, and a few cars are pulling out, and I think, hey, I wonder what the chances are that one of them is her, and...one of them was. I then went into extended how-the-hell-do-I-signal-her mode, because it's not like she knows what I look like. Heh. And it doesn't quite sink in until she's nearly passed me, so I am reduced to making unintelligible hand signals out the window of my car.
Thank goodness she figured out who I was and what I was doing.
So we had a lovely, indepth conversation about LJ and friends and fanfiction and magic in the HP universe and interesting writers and what makes a great story. It was awesome! I could have talked to her for hours. :)
