Who will be the DADA teacher next year?

I had this scary thought that it would be Umbridge again. She's back at the Ministry, after all.

Or it could be someone new, like usual, because of the jinx. But Ddore won't be involved, so it could be someone unsatisfactory...hmm...

Bigger question is: Will Hogwarts even be open next year? At the end, they were speculating that it might be closed. And even if it is open, it looks like Harry & Co won't be there anyhow to deal with a new DADA teacher.

That too! I'm wondering what's going to happen.

I think we'll be treated to more of an "adventure" story, as Harry quests about after the Horcruxes (and spends an evening with the Dursleys just to renew his protection).

I bet Hogwarts will be open, but I don't think Harry will attend. I agree with Valis about the adventure style story. Who knows? Maybe this book will encompass more than a year's time.

I look forward to book 7.

If Harry does go back to school, the DADA professor will probably be someone new. I don't see JKR writing any repeats...like Lupin, Umbridge, etc. Moody never really got his chance though, did he?

Moody! What an interesting idea! Hmmm...

Whole cans full of wriggly worms now, with book 7.

She says all the major characters are now in place (so expect no Mary Sue/Gary Stu to come and save the day).

I've no idea what is going to happen, except that Harry is going to Godric's Hollow (great! high time) then to visit his parents Graves (ditto) then after the Horcruxes.

And there must surely be an ending with the Dursley's. I'd imagine Harry is capable of really making one or two points to that lot when he leaves on July 31 1997 (if the timelines are right). I think having faced the horror of the climactic chapters of book 6, putting the Dursleys in their place will be easy - unless they are part of some DE plot.

There's a wedding (I hope we get that. The funeral of DD was an interestingly different ceremony) and then, well, we'll see. And a confrontation with Snape. Let's not forget that. And Peter in life debt, too.

And some much scarier DE AND the fact that the Dementors are breeding (a point that was raised but never followed in book 6).

I think there'll be a return to Hogwarts somehow, but not sure how it will go down.

I WANT THAT BOOK NOW!!! Scuse capslockiness.

I completely agree. I can't believe he hasn't visited them before now. I love that we finally have Harry-who-can-Apparate so we don't have to constantly be constrained by, well, not being able to Apparate.

And there must surely be an ending with the Dursley's.

He has to spend a night there. I am so hoping that Petunia will finally lose her cool and just tell him off bigtime, explaining everything from her twisted perspective.

Hmm...it would be interesting if Peter saved Harry from a nasty Snape...an AK to the back while Snape is trying to do in Harry.

I hope she'll explain where Dementors come from. Thinking of them breeding is squicking me, though.

I WANT THAT BOOK NOW!!!

I want book seven more than I ever wanted HBP. Like, add up all of my desire for HBP for the last couple years and multiply it. I liked OotP, but I was a little frightened of what might come next (and I was right, thought not in the way I thought), and now I want book 7 really, really badly. wah.

I gather she isn't going back to Hogwarts - she did say the Quidditch match that Luna commentated on was the last Quidditch match she was ever going to write - so it does sound like it. I think that would be sort of a shame. Hogwarts is as much of a character as anyone is. I'm going to guess at least one of the Horouxes is in Hogwarts though.

JKR said she's going to take a year off to be with her baby. I'm thinking, 'sheesh, woman, you work at home. You can write while the kid is napping. Come on!'

In an article I read it said that she's begun the next one, and it sounds like it picks up right where this one leaves off. I think we'll see a whole Harry Potter and King Solomon's Mines kind of thing where it's nearly all adventure as he tracks down the horcruxes and fills in the last of the backstory.

No more Quidditch? Heh, can't say I blame her. I'm not really into Quidditch much either.

There will be a new Headmaster and it will be someone bad. It's the only way the elves will take their hats and fight with the Order.

Harry frowned. "I hate Headmaster Snocone! He's just so...so...cold!"

"Yeah, what a drip!" laughed Ron.

Maybe it will be Headmaster Umbridge. Wouldn't that be fun!

Heh...and I should have said Headmistress Umbridge, but now that I think about it, it's kind of funny and I'm just going to leave it. ;)

It wouldn't surprise me if Umbridge was back in some capacity--be it as DADA professor or Headmistress.

Yes, I'm really thinking that she might be Headmistress. Hmm. That is, if we ever even see the inside of the school for that year.

I think Harry's going to have to make at least one trip back to Hogwarts; a conversation with Albus' portrait seems inevitable. If he hasn't already retrieved Snape's old potions book from the Room of Requirement, he may have to--JKR showed him going to too much trouble while hiding it for him to just leave it there.

I'd like to see Minerva as Headmistress, and I suspect she will be. Somewhere, a long time ago, I read an interview with JKR where she suggested that one of the DADA professors would actually teach for more than one year. I wish I could remember where I saw that reference, but I'm too lazy to dig right now. So sticking Umbridge back in that position may be in the cards.

But if the DADA position was cursed by Voldemort, then it'll be a new one. Unless this time it'll be real!Moody, which would be cool.

I think the school will stay open but the trio won't be there (=/- on Ginny). I agree with the 'adventure story' format of book 7 but Harry and co. will still need a place to hide out/find cool magic stuff/get advice that they won't take.

Headmistress... I think McG. She's been #2 for so long that she's the only one who could pull the place back together. All talk of Umbridge gives me the creeps. As for DADA, maybe that will just be the general theme for the year and all classes will have a Defense aspect. I mean now its wartime! Breeding dementors...Brrrrrr.

It would be awesome to see McG spread her wings, so to speak. I'd like to see what she would do running the school!

I think they will want to keep JKR will want to keep the tradition of it being a new person each book. To that end, what about Tonks? As an Auror, she definately has the knowledge and practical experience to be the teacher of DADA.

What a great idea! Tonks would certainly be an interesting addition to the staff.
