valis2: Stone lion face (Flatlion)

The lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] snapesforte has written the first chapter of what promises to be a fabulous fic.

It is a Snape-centric story that picks up where HBP left off. There is a tremendous attention to canon details, and the feel of the story is that of a deeper, fleshed out, Slytherin version of HP. This is a near perfectly-canon Snape, a complicated, ambitious man who is now adrift in a world of his own making. Snapesforte imbues his character with arrogance and familiarity with the Dark Arts, yet gives him further depth by having him not understand fully his own feeling of remorse or guilt over the happenings in HBP. The writing is well-done, the characters are so much more than canon, and there is this general feeling of the Slytherins as not only a group but a culture of their own. Snapesforte makes them real in a way they never are in canon. They are more than two-dimensional creatures. They live and breathe in Soul Play. There are many wonderfully creative details as well. If you are looking for an interesting, complicated, thoroughly canon-based WiP to follow, I would emphatically suggest this one.

I believe that its rating would be equivalent to an R.

It is archived here at the The Archive at the End of the Universe.

Thanks for the rec. Do they have email alerts or anything of the like?

Hmm.

They're a new archive, and I'm still figuring things out there myself. They seem to be using the same software as SH (or very similar), and they have a similar forum attached. SH has a place where you can start a thread for your story so people can subscribe to it and receive an email when you add a comment to the thread because you've uploaded, but the Archive does not. I don't know how you can subscribe, though you can add them to your Fav Authors listing, and that might be an easier way of finding them.

I tried registering to see what they had but they wouldn't let me do even that. Something about not accepting unsolicited authors.

I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying this as well. We really haven't had anyone step up to the plate and write a 'this is what happened right after Snape and Draco apparated' storyline. Moreover, to do it with the courage of showing Snape true to his canon form - without any griefstriken remorse over offing DD. I think the friction between Draco and Snape do happen about like she has described. Snape treats Draco with contempt, and Draco continues to act like a snot - venting how Snape stole his glory in his mission for LV. I really am enjoy how [livejournal.com profile] snapesforte is sticking parallel with HBP canon. Haven't finished yet but I agree with you. I think more people need to check this rendition out for the mere fact that it dovetails with the end of HBP. I, too, will be posting a heads-up about her fic on my LJ as well.

Yes, exactly! I love that she takes up this challenge so fearlessly and does such a great job with the characters.

I join you two there. I think that more people should not only read her wonderful fics but her art. Her Snape is simply the best Snape.

Automated message: Snapesforte cannot comment right now, as she is too busy expressing general feelings of extreme well-being.

Thank you very much! :-) It's wonderful to know that I managed to get all the subtle nuances across. I always worry about that, when writing.
