I realized today that I had forgotten to do a Renfest entry from last weekend (pirate weekend). Here goes.

More of the Delirio troup. This is Blammo balancing a Chicken Hammer upon his pa-chin.

Blammo balancing chicken hammer

Faux fiery torches.

Faux fiery juggling

Real fiery torches. Y'know, I still have a bit of a crush on the guy on the left, must admit.

Fiery juggling

Cold fairy, which explains the cloak. She was accompanied by Jack Sparrow. hee!

Fairy

I have long been completely in love with Fritz Lang's Metropolis, and there is this point in the film where they introduce Rotwang. But first they introduce his house. A dark house in the middle of the city. I was transfixed the first time I saw it, and sometimes I remember that shot when I'm wandering around festival, and I stop here...

Secret house

See, this is the Sekrit Belly Dancer House. In the middle of festival. I love that they have this...private property in the middle of Faire. It's fascinating. It's where they go to rest between performances, I would assume.

Secret house 2

Parade pics. The fairy queen and her escort.

Parade: Fairy Queen

Nice garb.

Parade: neat garb

Pirates! Arrr!

Parade: Pirates

Gotta love pirating in style, yo.

Parade: Pirate Carriage

More pirates.

Parade: Pirates 2

Again with the Half Blood Prince. Snape gets around, doesn't he?

Parade: Half Blood Prince

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] bookwench2096, my dear, dear friend.

Mistress O'Connell

Me, with Jazz Hands.

Jazz Hands

The end.

R, the end

This looks so fun. You've got me in the mood to go to the one in Houston.

Oh man, I swear the set up of your ren fair looks exactly like ours in Holly, MI... I was gonna go last weekend, but I ended up doing other stuff -- thinking I might wait until the last weekend of Sept, cause that's the sweet endings weekend with free chocolate.

That's because it is the one in Holly. ha!

;)

I will probably be there on the last weekend. Let me know, and we can meet up!

Oh Dude, how funny is THAT? I swear, if I hadn't got caught up in other stuff, I would've been there last weekend. :o) That is so cool, do you go to that one often?

I used to go a lot, but I've been cutting back a lot in the past years. I still buy season passes, but I just go three or four times, depending on whether I'm home or not. It's always good for seeing [livejournal.com profile] bookwench2096, some fun costumes, and some shows...and it's good to do something social once in a while. ;)

Yeah, I hear you on that. I used to go more often when I lived near Frankenmuth, but now I'm driving from over by Sanford so I only go once a year -- instead I do the entire Highland weekend at Alma.

Would you believe that it's made of leather? Isn't that crazy? *laughs*

It's very lightweight, though, which is awesome.

Hey look! It's *you*! I never thought you'd post a pic of you - you're always so secretive, lol. I like the lace-up vest, the whole outfit, really. I would end up being one of those people with no costume because I would not be able to find anything to wear.
That's one of my concerns over the Crystal Ball thingie, it says formal attire, and I don't know what I'd wear to it. Although, upon searching, I did find this pattern that comes in a plus size (yep, plus sized girl here, that size 18 might be snug in the chestal area) and I could make myself something. But then that would probably end out costing as much as to buy something.

What to do, what to do.

I did post a pic of me with the Lumos pics...I decided to take a risk. I hope I don't regret it!

Yeah, formal ball stuff makes me crazy. I don't really have anything "formal", after all, and I'm not a formal wear kind of person, so that is one barrier.

And finding nice, plus-size formalwear is, as you know, a total pain in the ass. ;)

Believe it or not, fest clothes are often made in larger sizes, and actually are rather nice-looking on big girls. Clothing is big business at ren faires, and you'd find a nice outfit quite easily, I promise. I have some other outfits, too. Seriously, the only problem is the expense.

That looks like so much fun! Tons better than the one time I went to a Ren Faire in Vallejo. I have got to start looking into how one becomes a Ren Faire belly dancer. I could sort of do that. Can I be a belly dancing pirate?

Haha, Snape would so totally have a topless guy with horns pulling him around in a wagon.

A belly dancing pirate sounds magnificent! They'd flock to see that. Hell, I'd try to flock for it, even.

*snort* Snape would love that, you're right.

I love the pimpin pirate in a ship cart and your necklace, too.

The pirate in his ship was so awesome! He raised one eyebrow at me.

And the necklace is antique, from Morocco, it is very cool, I love it.

This is not at all relevant to this post, except perhaps in that seeing you at the fest and getting your lj name led me to it, but... I've just spent the last two days reading The Last Sanguimagus and if you don't post more soon I may have to hunt you down, imprison you in a small room with nothing but a pen, paper and enough food to keep you alive until you finish it. Seriously. It's that good. I even ignored Jason a time or two, much to his annoyance, when he was trying to talk to me and I was trying to read.

I don't read a lot of fanfic and I haven't written any in about six years (I did Pern stuff in high school and when I was lonesome in law school). Most of it I find schlocky and irritating. But this is a magnificent book. The characters are more or less true to their personality and behaviors from the Rowling books, only explored in a more grown-up and fleshed-out manner. Sarah is an amazing creation -- totally real in both her persona and in the context of the Potterverse -- and what you've done with Snape (my favorite character and one of the few main characters I'll read much Potterverse fic about...when I do read it, I tend to like stories that explore little known characters and things that are very peripheral to the main story line and only build more on the universe) is wonderful.

I want more dang it!

Oh, WOW!

Thank you so very much! This is so unexpected, and so wonderful. It really made me glow at work.

I'm so glad you like it. I feel like I've spent years working on it...well, I kind of have, I suppose, at this point. But still, it's terrific to hear positive comments! My original Sarah had a lot of Sueish characteristics, and I eventually had to sit down and find out more about Mary Sue and redo Sarah a bit. When I was done I was pretty happy, though. Of all the characters I've ever written, she's my favorite, I think.

I love finding out about small, sideline details, too. I love it when someone works out the actual Fred & George shop, or when someone spends the time carefully assembling a new potion...the little touches can be so inspiring and thought-provoking. I'm endlessly fascinated with wizarding society.

Thank you again for reading. I'm so glad you found it entertaining!

Hey, it's Valis! You and Bookwench look very spiffy in your Renaissance garb, but for some reason I imagined you with mysterious, dark hair. :-)
I posted a picture of myself (looking dorky in the sunbonnet I had sewn) last fall; I did consider whether it posed any sort of security risk then decided no one was going to stalk me based on that picture. :-D

bwahaha! Yeah, I thought, the most this could do would be to scare people away from the journal, not make them so fascinated they'd stalk, though who knows. :)

Well, after killing Dumbledore, it's the only place he knows he won't be found! haha!

And thanks for the compliment. I call that blouse the "Modesty Blouse" because it slowly creeps upward during the faire. You can tell this pic was taken late in the afternoon because it's already halfway to my neck--ha!
