...at the author's note for this that I just found...

A/N: Hi, this is Sara. I would just like to say I have changed the horse’s name from Marinara to Cúbeth, which is Elvish for Moonbeam. It was brought to my attention that Marinara didn’t fit with the context of the story and I thank you for your concern and desire to help make the story more appealing.

Then I started singing..."I've ridden through the desert on a horse named Marinara, it felt good to get out of the rain..." Wonder if she has a pony named Meatball. Or Alfredo.

Oh dear. See, this is why I don't read LOTR fanfiction. Tolkien must be rolling in his grave.

Yes, some of the stories I've read in the last few days have made me want to cry...the continual destruction and perversion of canon. Certainly creative things can be done with canon. Certainly creative things can be done in an AU. But to take canon and distort it into a private crazy fantasy world...well, sometimes that just doesn't need to be shared with anyone else. ;)

1. why does a pet's name have "fit with the context of the story"? bzuh?

2. Marinara? how disturbing. Note to self: never name pet after food item, even if said food item is vegetarian and therefore by definition could not include aforementioned pet in its recipe.

*shudder*

And as a HUGE LOTR RPS fan, this is yet another reason why I don't read LOTR finctional character fiction. It's just so... contrived and wrong.

Fun, huh? I actually laughed out loud.

And pets do not have to be named at all! It could just be a horse, for goodness' sake! I don't think we ever get the name of Legolas's horse.

That always shows the Sue, really. When they have talking, magic-using animals with really odd colored fur. Ugh.

BuwhahahaHAHA! That's the funniest thing I've read all day.

O-o How the hell can you NOT know that the name "Marinara" doesn't fit in Middle-earth?

Isn't that INSANE? I nearly died when I read it.

Yet again we see the importance of beta readers. Or at LEAST having your sister/brother/someone LOOK at it. I don't have a beta, but at least I have one long-suffering friend who skims it for me before it goes out.

Every so often, something like this comes along to remind me why not to touch any Tolkien fanfic with a ten foot pole.

Marinara?

Isn't that a kind of pizza, usually with seafood on the top?
