Am reading a really, really, really atrocious fic. So atrocious that I cannot, in good conscience, supply a link, because I would then have to contribute to your therapy bills.

I can't stop reading it, either.

It just has that...verve that awful Suethors sometimes display. They run all over the map, cramming so much into the fic, but there's just this raw...energy...or something...and I keep reading. Well, that, and it's a terrific exercise in How Not To Write. It's also fun to imagine how you would edit each sentence and rephrase whole paragraphs.

There really is something wrong with me. I've gone through 86 chapters already.

Eighty... six? Dear god, how many chapters does it have?

A real friend would include the link. I'm a big girl. I can pay for my own therapy bills. I'd love to see what could keep you scrolling for eighty-six chapters.

Man. A mighty Suthor, it sounds like.

*snickers*

You know, Gina, that if I can provoke her into sharing that link, it will turn out that this is someone who signed up for Smutmas. And already has 93 chapters written out of the 213 she has outlined for her contribution.

Hope you have some bandwidth on that server you're using for the longer stories. Just saying.

Heh, I'm actually guessing it's one of the Harry/Lucius badfic epics that were posted on Beloved Enemies. We've had two or three fics that ran close to 100 chapters of pure shit.

I have a feeling that this person would never sign up for smutmas. And if she did, we would all cry in horror at what was created.

It's actually Harry/Snape. And it's so awful it made me wince during sex scenes, which is pretty difficult to do.

Hah! She sent me the link. It is mighty indeed, and it is . . . . someone who did sign up for Smutmas, I think. Not sure if she got in.

Just scanning the chapter list and summary, I can tell that this one is a classic, too. And in *coughs* a pairing that I like a lot, if you know what I mean. Valis is on chapter 86, and I can tell you that she still has a ways to go.

*rubs hands* God, badfic is a pleasure all its own. This one may inspire me to new meta, I can tell.

Hope you've got that bandwidth nailed down already, Gina. *is gleeful with the glee of a thousand Schadenfreuden*

It made Valis wince during the sex? Usually that's the one part I can count on to be reasonably entertaining, even if I've suffered through some awful stuff beforehand.

What chapter did you say that sex scene was in, Valis dear?

If you're nice to me, I'll forward the link, Gina.

Pssh, Valis already sent it to me. ;-P I don't think this person signed up for Smutmas, or if s/he did, s/he didn't win the lottery. Unless s/he is on LJ under another username...

Normally I like the naughty bits, but these made me want to retch. I'm not certain why, but it's all so...awful, and...well...blech.

It has nothing to do with "ew! slash!" because I lurves me some slash. It's all...so...icky.

Chapter 73, it looks like, is one of them.

Are you guys making fun of stories again? Hey, if she has you reading 86 chapters so far, she's doing something right Valis - even if it IS just the raw energy (I've been gardening all day - I'm envying other people's raw energy).

I'm up for a long story you can't put down - link please? : )

Most of the beginning chapters are between 1000 and 4000 words, but as the fic progresses, the chapters begin to get longer.

I'm eyeballing a couple 10,000+ chapters at the moment. Whoa!

Your icons are the hottest ever, I swear. Every time you comment or I see your entries I stop for a moment, entranced by the gorgeous males on display...

If I'm "fresh" I'll keep plugging away at a story. It's only when I'm overtired and my brain stops filling in what the author probably meant that I realize I'm working way too hard for too little result. Of course, there are those stories I have to keep reading because they make me giggle. The one where the author used "carriage" and "stagecoach" interchangeably is a good example. The image of "Draco Malfoy English Cowboy" was amusing enough to make up for what the story lacked. ;)

Ugh; I know your pain. I recently read a badfic which I couldn't put a halt to; not quite as long as yours thank heavens. In this case there were bits of the plot which were intriguing enough to lightly push a button or two, but I wanted to tear my hair out during other bits. Finished it because I had to see how the plot/relationship issue wound up. Promptly dove headfirst into a wonderful fic afterward to get the bad taste out.

I highly recommend re-reading a long loved favorite that you haven't read for a year or more. It seems to be working wonders for me. :)

I did the very same thing with this godawful LotR fic once. It, too, was over 100 chapters long, and I just kept reading and reading.

There is something wrong with me!

Oh, yes, I'll definitely take your advice. Will have to peruse some fabula rasa...
