Jun. 27th, 2004 12:15 amToday was another day. I am nearly ready for my trip.
I purchased the most alarmingly not-me outfit today. I surprised the hell out of myself. I have a rather informal dance to attend on Saturday, you see, and I want to look happy. Being 5'10" and on the plus side does not usually afford me a large assortment of fashion styles, you see.
So I went to Lane Bryant (twice) and finally selected black straightleg (nicely slimming) polyester pants, and this sheer, floaty, diaphanous top. It is black (see through) and cream and beige, all swirly in a seventies pattern. I am quite frankly astonished that I purchased it. Really astonished. But I figured at a dance, low lights, crazy times, general state of inebriation among participants, and the promise that other plus-size girls will be attending in corsets, vinyl, and leather, I will not only not stand out, I will look quite modest. Er, I hope. Yep. That's the ticket.
I want to buy my MIDI/USB cable. I really, really want to buy it.

Date: 2004-06-27 05:23 pm (UTC)Then one day I came in and a full QUARTER of the store was devoted to...halter tops. Halter tops. No, really. There is just no way that I would ever wear one. Most of my plus-size friends agree. A few months later nearly all of the halter tops were in the back of the store on clearance. But the trend continued.
The biggest disappointment? I received a flyer in the mail showing this adorable red paisley gathered-just-under-the-bosom shirt that was really bohemian and flirty. I went to LB the very next day to buy it. To my surprise it is BACKLESS. It ties with a little string. Like I want everyone to see my giant bra-strap. Ugh.

Date: 2004-06-28 01:54 am (UTC)BTW...LB has switched jean styles again within the last month and gotten rid of their old style. I was going to try on a new bootcut pair yesterday but forgot to.
And I would so definitely shop at Fat Chicks.

Date: 2004-06-28 02:04 am (UTC)I havent really been home for a year (went home for christmas but you know how the holidays are). So I dont know the changes to stores. Heck, I just kind of assume that the landscape has changed a lot since I was home last july.
*bangs head against desk* Well, maybe the new jean style at LB will actually fit. We will see what happens. Trying on clothes (which I loathe to do) is near the top of the list of stuff to do when I get home.
I am just disappointed in LB cause most of their stuff is so femme...I am so NOT femme. I am proud to say I dont own a dress or a skirt. Not that I am hard butch, but I prefer pants or jeans and tshirts.
